Summary: Excellent Book
Review: I bought this book with the recommendations from the editor's review here. I was not disappointed. The book is very understandable and I recommend it. However, this book alone will not get you to pass the test. In addition to this, I bought: Microsoft 2K Server Resource Kit, the Microsoft XP Resource Kit and the Transcender test. I recommend them all. I used these to pass the 70-270 test. In addition to these. Make sure you have at least a cursory understanding of Active Directory and actually play with it. You will need to know some light server admin stuff & internet explorer. Just follow up on the Transcender recommended reading and you will pass.

Summary: Prepare with confidence for the XP Exam
Review: I recently started working with computers that are shipping with Windows XP Professional. I have over 13 years experience with Windows operating systems, however XP Professional is certainly a new concept for me.

Coriolis is leader in IT Certification material and this 680 page manual is one of the books I am using to study for the 70-270 exam with. The authors go to great lengths to ensure the entire set of exam objectives is given ample coverage and overall they do a very nice job.

From helping the newest technicians with showing them what the new features of XP are. The book also shows you techniques for installing the newest operating system. The MMC is covered and while I am still trying to understand this completely after reading the section I have a better understanding but still have a way to go.

Other areas like desktop customization, XP environment settings, printing, hardware, the control panel, TCP/IP and networking are covered very well and I found them helpful in adding to the knowledge I already have.

I was unaware that there are several formats that you can convert the disk format to and this section does detail what to do and what not to do. I have a practice machine to work with and found that before converting anything you must ensure good backups.

Finally there is coverage of VPN and remote access, security, and disaster recovery as well as XP with other operating systems like 2000, NT, Netware and Unix. The book gives you ample hands on exercises, projects and review questions.

The cd included has practice test with over 150 questions. One thing missing is a evaluation copy of the software and possibly a simulator to work with but overall a very good reference manual for self study as well as the classroom.

Summary: Excellent Foundation for Windows XP
Review: Read this book, grasp all of the contents, and you will have a very solid foundation on Windows XP. This book takes you through RIS, Unattended Installs, Managing disks, TCP/IP, Printing, EFS, Mobile Users, Working in a Novell Netware environment, System recovery, hardware support, shortcuts, command-line utilities and Troubleshooting to name a few. Be sure to supplement your studies with practices tests to be triple-darn sure that you'll pass the test. Good Luck!!!

Summary: Disappointed.
Review: This is chock full of errors ! I find it hard to believe that I can go back to the EXAM PREP on Windows 2000 Professional by the same authors and find the material there is correct ! Since this is mostly a copy, with updates for the new features, it appears it must have been rushed out the door as they went out of business. What a shame, as the presentation, questions and projects are in a fine format.
