Rating: Summary: Good reference Review: A very complete J2ME book. It is the most complete book I have reviewed. Serious J2ME developers should find this a great resource. The book is not so technical and boring like many computer books. Overall a great book.
Rating: Summary: A Must to beginners Review: A very nice book with lots of helpful information and code examples. When I first purchased this book I had a little information about J2ME technology and was strongly willing to learn more about it. This book helped me a lot. ... I do strongly recommend this book to everyone who wishes to advance in J2ME...
Rating: Summary: A must have for J2ME developers Review: An excellent book! What I enjoyed most is that there are examples for every aspect of the programming interface. Although the examples near the beginning are short and concise, each topic is explained in depth and demonstrated with a relevant application. What makes this book standout is that concepts considered difficult to master are explained with great detail in a very readable fashion. The section devoted to session management with Java Servlets was excellent! If you are looking to learn J2ME, you won't find a more complete book on the topic. The references to CLDC and MIDP are worth the price alone. This is a must have for the serious J2ME developer!
Rating: Summary: Silas Sin Review: I bought this book about two months ago when my company was starting a J2ME project. I read the first 6 chapters page for page as an introduction and then used the rest of the book as a reference. I now consider myself a proficient J2ME programmer. I've used the book mostly as a reference and I have found that the way the chapters are laid out makes it very easy to find whatever information I'm looking for. The chapters on Record Stores are particularly useful. One reviewer said to just read the online docs. CDLC and MIDP are not very difficult technologies to become proficient at but the documentation online will make it much harder on you. If you don't mind wasting hours of time to save [money] on this book thats fine. But if your time is valuable like mine break down and make the investment. This book and the JavaDocs will be all you need to start professional apps in J2ME.
Rating: Summary: Best book to start learning J2ME. Review: I have started learning J2ME, and it is my first book of J2ME. I am pretty sure that it will be the one of best choices if you choose this book to start learning J2ME. Examples are very nice to easily understand the concept of J2ME.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book - Good introduction & reference Review: I really like this book. It was a very detailed introduction to me and is still very useful as a reference. John Muchow explains all the necessary details, such as UI, RMS, timers, HTTP connections and much more. The 700 pages also include a chapter about using midlets on the Palm OS platform - you get a lot for you money. If you start with J2ME or want to improve your knowledge, this book is a must-have. Good work, John!
Rating: Summary: An excellent choice Review: I was new to J2ME before purchasing this book. It is easy to follow and has good examples that go along well with the descriptions of each section. I thought the author did an excellent job of explaining the details of programming with MIDP. I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: A very low-level introduction to j2me Review: i would not recommend this book if you are familiar with java (standard and/or enterprise edition). the explanations and examples in this book are very low level. most of the stuff can be also extracted from the javadoc of the api documentation. its pretty useless to copy api specs and javadoc into a book. you just can view this info for free whitout having bought this book... if you are really a beginner, maybe than this book can help you. for me, the level was really too lowlevel.
Rating: Summary: A good book to read Review: This is a good book to read even you are familar with J2SE or J2EE. This book and its sample codes enable me to write application codes within a very short time. I appreciate the author's effort to make the J2ME coding easy.
Rating: Summary: Get flying with J2ME Review: This is a wonderful book for everyone who knows some Java programming, and would like to explore the world of J2ME applications. I need to learn J2ME programming for my Master's Degree in computer science - this book has gotten me off to a flying start. It tells you everything you need to know to set up a development environment on your PC, and to try out your own applications. There are lots of helpful examples that illustrate how to use the MIDP API, without drowning in details. Also, the author's light and entertaining language makes this book a thoroughly enjoyable read.
