Summary: The closest thing to physically moving your hand
Review: In my work writing training material, I have found that one of the most difficult tasks is how to represent a series of mouse actions where the screen appearance alters after each action. It is not quite so difficult when the audience consists of experienced mouse jockeys, but is very hard when the readership is inexperienced. The manner in which that problem is addressed in this book is the most impressive thing about it. Using a series of numbered icons with captions and pointers to the location on a screen shot, you are gently led through the series of proper actions.
The sequence of actions is also repeated in text form underneath the diagrams, and the item to be acted on is named. On the bottom of each two page set there is an introduction caption on the left and tip and hint captions on the right. While this text is well written and helpful, I found the choice of colors to be an occasional problem. At times, two shades of orange were used as background for white text and there is not a great deal of contrast between them, which made it difficult to read. However, I had no trouble reading the black on green, black on yellow and white on purple.
If your needs are to learn the basics of FrontPage in a hurry, then this book is for you. With it, even a beginner can have simple pages designed and active in an hour or two.
