Rating: Summary: Not the last book purchased on TCP/IP Review: Book is full of information on routing, WINS, DNS. Detailed explanation of how name resolution works. Has a great sample Transcender demo included. I Still had questions after reading the book from front to back.

Rating: Summary: The only book you'll need! Review: I studied from this book exclusively and passed the test first time with 97%! This is the only book you'll ever need. Truly excellent. Even the sample questions are good and in some cases where virtually identical to the ones in the exam!
Rating: Summary: Need to Pass this Exam Fast? then Use this book. Review: I used this book along with the Exams notes and a network of three computers. I completed the book, took the exam, and passed with a score of 933 all in 10 days. As this Exam expires on 28th Feb 2001, I can imagine that not much use will come of this review. However if you need a background in TCP/IP from a Microsoft OS perspective this would be a very helpful book. If it is out of print by then a good alternative is the Sybex book: Mastering TCP/IP for NT Server, by Mark Minasi and Todd Lammle, huge chunks of the 2 books are the same, with the Study Guide going into greater depth in some areas. My thoughts about this book, well written with a little humour, which helps to make the topics covered easy to grasp, and to make this book enjoyable to read. I especially liked the inclusion of explanations for the answers. A word of advice to any Budding MCSE is hands on PRACTICE. Do what ever it takes to set up a network at home if you can't at work or in class. Three computers are all you need, and when compared with the cost of a course it would be easily worth it. GOOD LUCK

Rating: Summary: Average Book Review: It makes sense that it takes a Microsoft Book to pass a microsoft exam, right? The book is not easy to read--but it includes everything you need to pass. I would have given it higher marks except it put me to sleep. I recommend supplementing it with an easier to read text to get an overall feel for the topics before plunging into this tome. Index: 1. An Introduction to TCP/IP 2. Identifying Machines with IP Addressing 3. Implementing IP Routing 4. IP Address Resolution 4. Host Name Resolution 6. NetBIOS over TCP/IP 7. DHCP: Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol 8. WINS: Windows Internet Name Service 9. DNS 10. Internetwork Browsing 11. Connectivity in Heterogeneous Environments 12. Microsoft SNMP Servies 13. Shooting Trouble Appendix A: Review Answers Appendix B: Glossary Appendix C: New in NT 4.0 WINS Appendix D: NetBT Configuration Parameters Appendix E: A New DNS Day Dawns
Rating: Summary: Not Enough Review: Not a bad try. If you want to pass Microsoft's TCP/IP for NT 4, you'll probably need more than this book alone. There wasn't enough information on subnetting, and the author seemed rather unfocused, but as an introductory text to TCP/IP, it's not bad.
Rating: Summary: A well writen study guide for MCSE TCP/IP Review: Overall the book was well writen. It had the best explainations of Wins, DHCP, DNS, SNMP, and performance tuning I have seen yet. The authors did a commendable job on a very complex topic. If self-study is your path and you have some familiarity with TCP/IP this book is a must. If you are new to TCP/IP take the ATEC course.I would have liked more examples in the book, particularly on sub-netting, subnet masking, heterogenous environments, Hosts and Lmhosts (all of which is hit hard on the exam). Make sure you have NT server or WS available for studing with this book - this book and course is not for Win95! The scenarios at the end of each chapter are invaluable. There are a few wrong answers in the book which have been addresses by an adenda from the authors - get this!Advice - know chapters 1 and 2 cold before continuing with the rest of the book
Rating: Summary: I clocked this test, 1000! Review: This book is excellent. The other reviewer is right though, the part on subnetting is weak. The included Learnkey CDROM instruction on subnetting is right on the money and makes up for the poor subnetting text. The questions at the end of each chapter are so similar to the actual test questions I was shocked. If you must take the NT4 TCP/IP test then this is the book to get.
Rating: Summary: disappointed Review: Throughout the book, the author is trying to be funny instead of really explaining the material. It was a frustrating book to read, and I'd wish I bought another book. Because I have experience with TCP/IP, I passed the exam, but most of the questions were not really covered in this book. MCSE, MCP+I, CCNA
