Rating: Summary: The CLEP is not THIS bad!!! Review: Dear Heavens, if I had to answer the questions in these sample tests, I would have had to take the class in person and hired a tutor as well....especially without being provided a proper study guide! I took the CLEP this past Friday and PASSED. Several weeks ago I decided I would ignore this book even though I'd bought it out of desperation, as there is so little proper CLEP review info available. But I realized quickly there was no way I could learn all this on my own, so hoped it was overkill (which it is). Instead, I went to a college bookstore and bought a textbook on this exact course which is offered at most schools (Computer Information Systems). I suspect it is all quite standard. I studied the textbook carefully and all the glossary type words, focusing on databases and such. That textbook was all I needed. This Rudman book would have given me a near nervous breakdown had I tried to achieve mastering it on my own, and wouldn't necessarily have helped me. Having said this, I want to say that I DO recommend Rudman's CLEP BIOLOGY review..that one at least had the key material within and did help me for that test.
Rating: Summary: Information Systems & Computer Applications Review: I agree with many readers about this book. It has nothing but exam questions that seemingly doesn't even relate to the named content. The only useful tool was the glossary. I borrowed the book from the library and thought it was a definite waste of my time.
Rating: Summary: Information Systems & Computer Applications Review: I took the CLEP exam yesterday and was quite surprised that absolutely NONE of the actual exam questions were derived from the examination sections in the study guide. The study guide is a waste of money. I totally wasted my time with it and do NOT recommend it.
Rating: Summary: NOTHING BUT QUESTONS Review: If your trying to learn about this subject this is not the book for you. Maybe if your just reviewing it might help you
Rating: Summary: CLEP info sys and comp apps Review: This book is ideal for tearing up its pages to be used for cat litter. Complete waste of money! I would highly recommend another book instead: Computers (12th Edition)
by Larry Long, Nancy Long.
Rating: Summary: Helped me on the exam Review: This book is not written to really teach you the subject; however, if you are a good "memory" person, you will do well because the exam questions are similar to those in the book. You need to do most of the tests in the book though and there are many and many.
Rating: Summary: A work of pure garbage! Review: This must be one of the worst CLEP subject review books I have read. The course material covered is completely out-of-date and the emphasis also seems to be on mountains of this same outdated material! This book provides tons of test material that is almost completely useless! No-one will benefit by relying on this useless book for their CLEP exam!
Rating: Summary: Little Information and Poorly Produced Review: This text provided very little, if any, information directly pertinent to the Information Systems CLEP exam. Furthermore, it's poorly produced, and extremely overpriced. For starters, the entire book is printed in 12-point courier font, giving it the look of something that was printed on a dot-matrix printer. I have never, ever, seen a professionally published text printed in such a way. College students choose this font to increase the page-length of papers sometimes, and I suspect that the publisher may have had the same motivation: to make the book appear larger than it really is. Highly un-professional! The bulk of the text is composed of practice tests, which might be useful for evaluating your readiness to take the exam. The most useful item in the book is a one-page description of what types of questions are included on the test. Other than this, THERE IS NO SPECIFIC INFORMATION TO PREPARE YOU FOR THE INFORMATION SYSTEM CLEP EXAM! There are 30 pages (12-point courier) of general CLEP exam strategies, which are useful, but can be obtained in a much cheaper text. If you are genuinely trying to prepare for the Information Systems CLEP exam, this book will not help you much. You're should learn about general CLEP test-taking strategies, so get a small book on that subject. For review that is specific to Information Systems, you're better off checking out some computer books from the library and skimming those. If you know enough to pass the Information Systems CLEP, this book will do nothing to let you know that. If you don't already know enough to pass the test, this book will do nothing to help.
Rating: Summary: Very good questions, not much written review Review: This was a very good tool to study for your exam. The book only has questions, the answers to the questions, and a 56 page Glossary of Computer Terms. This book is a great complement for the CLEP test
