Rating: Summary: Good for what it wants to tell you Review: I don't know why everyone writes in about typos, who cares? This book is well laid out and covers a lot of topics essential to the exam. You can learn a lot from this book. A great jumping off point!!
Rating: Summary: Good but use the Exam cram book also ISBN 1576101924 Review: I recommend this book I used it along with the Exam Cram book the two complete each other. You might be able to pass with this book alone but why waste the 100 dollars if you don't. The goal of any test should be to pass on the first try. This book and the exam cram ISBN # 1-57610-192-4 will help you meet that goal. I recommend this book and give it the 5 star seal of approval. I passed this test on the first try with an 833 and I am a MCP. As with most of these study guides it helps to use more than one.
Rating: Summary: I Recommend This Book Review: I think the material in the book is quite nicely laid out, logical, etc. I recommend buying this book as your main text. It's not perfect but it's not bad, and I know what a bad study book is. I also suggest that Networking Essentials is the right starting point for those wanting to become MCSE's. With no prior experience, I did find the material presented to be a steep learning curve. Although the book says, at the beginning, that no prior experience is necessary (other than familiarity with Windows & the mouse) I was glad that I had A+ certification, which helped me somewhat in understanding this book. Get the 'Computer Desktop Encyclopedia' or a computer/networking dictionary, Mr. Nash's book has a lot of vocabulary that isn't covered by his book's glossary. Also get the errata sheet he mentions. In addition to this book, two others I used & really liked are MCSE Readiness Review Exam 70-058 (MS Press) and MCSE-The Core Exams in a Nutshell (O'Rielly).
Rating: Summary: This book is an excellent refrence tool for the 70-058 exam Review: Nash's book is clearly written and covers all topics found on the Networking Essentials exam. I had no exposure to networking before reading the book but Nash made everything crystal clear. Buy this book if you are considering taking Networking Essentials. It will give you all the information you need to pass the exam. The only problem is the questions found in the book are not indicative of those on the exams. I'd give the book a solid 9.
Rating: Summary: very good book Review: really good book, I passed the exam on my first try and felt no nervousness while taking it. this IDG publication and alan carters windows nt 4.0 both read like MCSE for dummies because the reading was so easy, but it was such a great relief from the very dry technically written books that I have read in the past. the only thing negative I have to say about it is that it was not as complete as I would have liked, but it is more than enough to get you through the exam (this goes for the carter book also).
Rating: Summary: VERY DIRECT AND TO THE POINT Review: This book I recommend to anyone that is looking to be MCSE. I finally past after the fourth try. I finally bought this book and started to read it and really understand it. Jason Nash was very informative and to the point in this book. I am getting myself ready for NT Workstation 4.0. and MCP status. Thanks Jason
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Reliable Review: This is the perfect companion to Alan Carter's NT4 MCSE Study Guide. If you're studying for the NetEss exam, you should give it a try!
Rating: Summary: This is the reference you need to pass 70-58 Review: You only need three things to pass the Networking Essentials exam; This book, the Transcenders practice exams, and the desire to do it. With them you've got it made. I passed on my first try with no problem, and I had no previous networking experience at all. I read the Exam Cram TCP/IP and failed Transcenders exams miserably. I read this book and passed them first time. IF YOU CAN PASS THE TRANSCENDERS PRACTICE EXAMS YOU CAN PASS THE MICROSOFT EXAMS. Don't even bother breaking the seal on the enclosed CD. Get Transcenders for all the MCSE exams if you're serious about passing.
