Rating: Summary: Seemed Pretty Good To Me Review: I found this set very helpful in learning J++, and at the time I received mine, it covered much in basic Java. The lessons were very well paced, but at times does make an assumption the reader knows something not yet taught. This causes a stop to look ahead to finish. It does come with the Standard Version of J++ and upon registration of the software, you are entitled to all the benefits of the Microsoft Developers Network.
Rating: Summary: Microsoft Visual J++ Deluxe Learning Edition Review: This is a two book set that includes the learning edition of Microsoft Visual J++ 6. It seems that Microsoft does not offer as much for VJ++ as it does VC or VB. The only really useful parts of this package are the programmer's guide and maybe the IDE. I would not recommend this book to a novice or beginner. There are much better books on the market. Overall, this packages seems a little misleading in that it is not a good place to start for those with little programming knowledge.
Rating: Summary: Save your money! Review: This set of books really makes me wonder if anyone at Microsoft, aside from the authors, read it before it was published. The examples are "pieced", and code is inserted without explaination. The section on applets takes about ten minutes to read. This set provides very little intruction pertaining to the development of "Real World" applications. Save your money!
