Buy these books and get on your way. There are alot of repeats, but practice makes perfect!*If NO then save your money for a school.
Rating: Summary: BUY THIS SET! If you want to be an MCSE. Review: For the most part, very well written and exhaustive in content. Very complete in coverage, GREAT study guides. Complement this set with "Core 4: In a Nutshell:" and corresponding Microsoft "Readiness Reveiews" and you'll pass the tests, no problem. Simply the best cornerstone for your Core 4 studies published!
Rating: Summary: It provides the basics for those with no experience Review: I bought the boxed set, but I didn't use them to pass the 3 required exams: NT 4.0 SERVER, SERVER IN THE ENTERPRISE AND NT 4.0 WORKSTATION. Why? Because each book is huge, I tried reading through the first couple of chapters of NT Server 4.0 and ended up quitting because the information was very basic. It's really good for people who have absolutely no networking knowledge at all, because it covers basic networking. I have used the program and taken some classes so I found these books a waste of time for me. I wanted to save time (who has time to waste reading a 500 to 600 page book when you can read one that's half the size)so I used Sybex's MCSE core requirements NOTES instead. These books cut through all the unnessary stuff and give you the information you need to pass the exams. However, I must say that I would not have passed if I did not use the practice tests put out but Transender corporation. the question's used in the exam notes book's did not prepare me for the exams. In conclusion, If you want to pass read the MCSE CORE REQUIREMENTS NOTES AND KNOW THE INFORMATION ON THE TRANSENDER EXAMS AND YOU WILL PASS. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Rating: Summary: Good to start your studies Review: I have passed the tests for Workstation and Server so far, and am working on studying for Server Enterprise. Each time, my first study material has been the appropriate book from this set. I don't have as much experience as others with NT networks, but the books helped me get a good understanding of the basics of these operating systems. I would give them 5 stars, but they are not quite as in-depth as the actual exams. I followed these books up with Exam Cram and "Certification for Dummies" flash cards to fill in the gaps, and passed both with flying colors! When the Windows 2000 Sybex books come out, I will definitely buy them!
Rating: Summary: It helped me get certified Review: I used these to get certified and pass all my core requirements tests. They are usefull and you can have them for a great resource although they are a little basic, and they are only good for certification.
Rating: Summary: I haven't read it yet Review: Obtuse, and wordy. Authors refuse to abbreviate "Windows NT" and use it repetitively as many as 5 to 10 times per page. The material is confusing. If you are new to the subject avoid this set. As one reviewer said they can spend half a page telling you how to get to the control panel, on the other hand they will frequently make reference to something with no indication at all where to find it. Most important while you may be able to derive the information needed for the exams, this set does little in the way of preparing you for them. It only gives very brief overviews of what is required. I find the New Riders to be very helpful others might be trancendors and exam cram.
Rating: Summary: A must for MCSE starters Review: The book cover all topics in those subjects. Explained clearly. Of course, you should not only rely on these books, real experiences on operating NT is also important. It will let you remember the concept deeply. Besides, do some questions like transcender's before exam really help. I think this is the formula to pass the exams.
Rating: Summary: You get what you pay for! Review: These book only skim the surface of the details that you will see on the test. If all you want to do learn enough to JUST pass the exam, then these books are for you! On most of the tests, there are at least 3-5 questions covering material found no where in the book. Doesn't sound like much until you realize there are only 30 questions on the entire exam. I have passed all four exams at this point on the first try. To Summarize: Networking Essentials was a good book. Past that the rest of the books were crap. Most people I know use the Transender Practice Exams to supplement these poorly written books. It is amazing to see how much information these books do not cover. My advice would be to check out the books from Microsoft Press. Consider it an investment in your career. Also they cover the same material in three books.
