Summary: Am I too demanding?
Review: The line has been drawn; for those of us who want to become expert "Flashers" and earn the higher salaries, we must straddle the line that separates Art from Science. We have to learn ActionScript, programming skills, and the basics of good programming style else we waste countless hours debugging and rewriting bad code, instead of creating beautiful Flash images. I firmly believe that artists can learn to become ActionScript programmers, but NOT from this book - or any other book I've seen. This book and all books I've seen don't seem to be understand what are the most important and fundamental aspects of a programming language. An ActionScript book should NOT teach computer science, but within the invisible essence of the book should exists a firm foundation in computer science. I am a computer systems analyst/ex-teacher/artist wannabe, who is helping a Flash designer to learn to use, appreciate the strengths, and hate the faults of Actionscript. And I want to say to all publishers and authors: Before you create the next Flash actionscript book, please, please, please study the programming books by WROX (no - I don't work for them). Then learn how to TEACH programming to artist;learn how to create an integrated series of PRACTICAL books that lead a person from beginner to expert Flasher. Then I will be happy.
