Rating: Summary: Very good primer for UD newbies Review: Easy to follow, easy to read, this book will get you up and running with UltraDev in no time. The simple to follow examples work! Each example builds on previous examples. The book touches on many topics and offers a good foundation for going on to learn more. The book helped me get some database driven pages up and running in a relatively short time.
Rating: Summary: Dazed and Confused Review: I am unsure if there is more than on e version of this book available but mine is seriously outdated! The author uses old versions of everything, I am on Windows XP and running UltraDev 4. These things make the book hard to follow and confusing. I actually became frustrated and I know a bit about UltraDev and am proficient in Dreamweaver. Also, the explanations, in my opinion, are almost non-existant! The author spends more time giving instructions than teaching- not the way a tutorial book should be.Maybe this book would be helpful if you really aren't looking to learn UltraDev and are looking to skate through a project, but for as a serious web developer this book falls way short.
Rating: Summary: Great Book for UltraDev Review: I use Dreamweaver but want to get up fast on Ultra Dev using database. This book is about UltraDev. It got me up quickly. It is not complex. Many pictures helping you. After a while with this book - I wanted to learn more. This is not an advanced book - It will get you up on Database development fast but to advance you will need more when it comes to complex SQL. And it will not teach you database modeling - that is not what this book is - it is learning UltraDev and does a fine job teaching UltaDev. There is more to dasebase driven sites than just pushing buttons. GREAT BOOK - I am keeping mine! Worth the money...
Rating: Summary: Incredible Review: This book is a MUST for anyone looking to use UltraDev to build dynamic sites. The entire book is laid out in a step by step guide to get you where you want to be fast. I would recommend this book to anyone using UltraDev, not just a newbie. There is something here for everyone, reguardless of your level of experience.
Rating: Summary: Lack of Depth, Lousy Look, Rushed to Market Review: This book is not worth the money. The layout is okay, but the book is in a dull blue color throughout, which personally is not attractive or easy to read. For the price they are asking, some color would be nice! An okay book for beginners, but I have read better.
Rating: Summary: Very good primer for UD newbies Review: This book is perfectly suited for those who want a very quick and clean introduction to Macromedia UltraDev. After I despaired over the awful tutorials by Macromedia (they made configuring the server connections a maddening ordeal of hit-and-miss), this was a welcome breath of fresh air. Everything was crystal clear, and setting up the server connections was a comparative breeze. The screenshots helped immensely in showing exactly what the user should be seeing after every step. I swept through half the book in about two hours, and I was able to execute every example without ever breaking open the enclosed CD. It is a tiny bit limited, because it's geared primarily toward the app's core features. But it really helped me hit the ground running with UD, and it's worth every penny.
Rating: Summary: Perfect For a Beginner Review: While this book shouldn't be considered the authorative resource on Ultradev 4, it's an EXCELLENT book for beginners. There are many screen shots that make learning easy and there isn't a single wasted word. If you're new to this great web authoring tool and want to get up to functioning speed fast, this book is perfect!
