Microsoft PhotoDraw 2000 by Design introduces beginners to Microsoft's new image-editing and -creation program, and though it covers the essential features in detail, it still manages to maintain a focus on the basics of good design. The CD-ROM lets you practice with examples, and as you progress the projects become more involved. To facilitate learning about PhotoDraw, there are many usage tips, shortcut hints, cross-references, and troubleshooting advice sections. You begin by fiddling with the drawing, text, and other tools, leading to a series of hands-on projects. While some of the projects seem similar to "fun" projects done for personal reasons, others--like designing a logo, poster, or announcement card--mimic a business-minded goal. In these tasks, you explore the gamut of PhotoDraw features, from image manipulation through special effects to creating templates for future use.
