Rating: Summary: awsesome book... Review: A great combination: one of the best Web creation technique authors, Lynda Weinman, writing about the best Web tool, Dreamweaver. The one Dreamweaver book to buy.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Tutorial for Dreamweaver 2.0! I loved it! Review: Dreamweaver 2.0 - Hands On Training, one of two great Dreamweaver books. You should really consider this book if you'd like to go through simple exercises that will demonstrate the true power of Dreamweaver 2.0. I thought I knew what was easy and powerful with Dreamweaver - UNTIL I purchased this book! My eyes were opened to ideas I never before considered. Dreamweaver 2.0 is an unbelievably great web design product, and this book is the perfect companion to anyone at the beginner or intermediate stages. Then again, I thought I was pretty advanced, so unless you know EVERYTHING about Dreamweaver, consider ordering this one. It's a great book. You'll probably rediscover things you had previously forgotten. I did, several times. The other great Dreamweaver book is the Dreamweaver 2.0 Bible. It's an excellent reference that covers everything you would ever want to know in great detail, but in a simple fashion. I wish all technical writers could pick up a few tips from these writers. The simple language and easy examples are about as perfect as one can imagine. One note - DW2 - Hands On Training has a few typos, but nothing serious. You'll see them immediately, and they shouldn't be distracting at all. I don't remember even one typo that made this book technically inaccurate. Don't worry about that. You'll LOVE this book.
Rating: Summary: This book is a must for any questionable dreamweaver novice. Review: I did not know anything about dreamweaver before I went through this book. The Chapters and lessons are clearly explained and examples are superb. This is one of the best HOT books I've ever bought. I highly recommend it to any dreamweaver novice.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book for the Dreamweaver novice Review: I have never used Dreamweaver before and this book made my beginning experiences with Dreamweaver less intimidating. Dreamweaver is a very powerful piece of software and can seem overwhelming, but with the H.O.T book by Lynda, I was not overwhelmed. This book is not intended to be a Bible, but rather a jumpstart into the world of Dreamweaver. What you do after reading this book is up to you. There are other books that give you more in-depth information about Dreamweaver, but this is excellent for someone wanting to get their hands wet with DreamWeaver. Great job Lynda.
Rating: Summary: this book saved my hide Review: I unexpectedly got a web freelance job, with short notice and no knowledge of the software. This book very quickly taught me all the basics and let me keep that job. I think the hands-on aspect made all of the difference. The problem with most books is that it's difficult, unless you have a real project to work on, to really comprehend the book. And if you have a "real project," chances are it's too late to learn everything you need to know to get the job done. That's why this book is so good, there are a bunch of pre-created files to work with. Another great thing is that the book is not strictly linear--if you skip a chapter that's too basic, the tutorial will still work in the other ones. You won't be punished for not going through every tedious little step, like in other tutorial books. I have a few compliants about the book, though. It doesn't let you know about how Dreamweaver can produce nonW3C-compliant code if you're not careful. DW can also create excessively bulky code, with many unneeded font tags. And the book doesn't mention that DW2 doesn't update JavaScript-coded links (DW3 does, thankfully). So I ended up writing corrections all over the book before passing it on to another person so they could learn. It's still a very useful book--I wish there were more titles in the HOT format (Flash, Director, etc.).
Rating: Summary: A Rare Treat Review: If you want to learn Dreamweaver 2 and want the option of learning at home - this is the book. I can't tell you what a treat it was, as a beginner, to buy this book and actually be able to follow the instructions step by step. (I usually get a book and then have to struggle through the poorly written lessons and accomplish nothing) This book is very clearly written with enough screen images to keep the steps very precise. I have spent the last two weeks going through the lessons one by one and my web site is only a few steps away from launching! I couldn't be more thrilled with this book.
Rating: Summary: dreamweaver 2, hot hands on training Review: it is damn good training book, suggetsted for beginner.
Rating: Summary: H.O.T. -an excellent book, well written, best training book Review: The book is EXCELLENT! Lynda writes with a comfortable style, easy, accurate and interesting, and with a particularly adept sensitivity to the new user or student. This book is the very best I've found for a person just beginning to use Dreamweaver 2, which is also a great piece of software. I did every exercise in the book and there are very few errors, (and no serious errors) so I strongly disagree with the implications of a previous reviewer. If you want the very best book of its kind, I highly recommend H.O.T.!!!
Rating: Summary: Dreamweaver 2.0 Hands-On Training Review: This book was an excellent tutorial to getting started with Dreamweaver 2.0. The lessons were put together very well and really made me understand the concepts of web design. If you follow all the lessons through you will have a very good knowledge on how to use Dreamweaver 2.0 to create your own websites.
Rating: Summary: Just Beautiful Review: This is not a comprehensive book on everything that Dreamweaver does. It is one of the most thoughtfully designed and well-written books on how to use Dreamweaver functions in an integrated way to put together a small website. What you do with Dreamweaver after that is completely up to you, but this book shows you how to start out and explains why you are doing certain things a certain way. The chapter on frames was good but a bit confusing, possibly because of the way the program is designed. I would have liked a chapter at the end of the book on some more advanced topics. The CD is actually useful because it has ready-made image and file folders for import. I recommend supplementing this book with a Visual Quickstart Guide on Dreamweaver, which can answer questions on certain functions with greater depth. Nice job, Ms. Weinman, and Thank You. And I love the layout design of the book's interior, too.
