Summary: How to build an entire site/application using offline Genera
Review: A complete how to book, from start to finish. Walks the reader through every aspect from design to datasource to the code linking the two together and lots more. It is based upon a real world site/application, which in my opinion increases its value and merit. It's a book for anyone of any skill level & will have at least one thing that will make owning the book worth every penny.

Considering the lack of material available on Generator at the present moment, this may prove to be the best book on the topic for some time. And once again, since it's based entirely in offline Generator, it appeals to any flavor of Generator, Developer or Enterprise. In fact, you may never have a need for online Generator, after reading this book.

Wait no longer, get the book, and open up new worlds for your customers, employers, or just for yourself. :)

Summary: Flash Forward
Review: At last, a couple of guys who knows the way developers and designers think comes up with a how-to that gets it right, right out of the box. You'll find this handy for all situations in the development process. It's easy to understand and the examples are great. Sounds like Alvarez&Taylor have got a future as industry gurus and not just Flash in the pans. My advice? Click through and buy this book now.

Summary: Excellent Process Management!!
Review: Great book if you already have an understanding of Flash as a tool. ------ Excellent book if you need to sell a Generator project to a client! It loads you down with a process that everyone from the designers, developers, and marketing folks can use to build on.

I recommend it for any design shop that needs a quick start with their overall Flash production and method.

BTW: The CD is loaded with the entire ASP, Generator, and Flash source files used for the web site along with some really nice software.

Summary: It's About time!
Review: I have been trying to undersand how to integrate Generator with a backend language for some time now (just so you know, I am not a developer). After waiting so long I have a guide to help me.

With it being the first book and seeing how long generator has been out, I thought there would be more in the Template chapter. However, the detail about optimizing and organizing really shines.

The source code is well worth purchasing the book. I've ordered 3 more copies for my office.

Summary: First book on Generator but shallow in content
Review: I was really excited when I received this book. I have been waiting forever for a book on Generator, but this book left me disapointed.

There is some good information on Generator but it leaves tons of information out. For example, all of the objects are not covered, its doesn't show how to use Generator with asp (or other languages), and there is nothing about using Generator through the web server. (These are jsut a few examples).

The book is useful in showing what to expect when working on a Generator project, but as a book for learning Generator it misses the mark.

Summary: No color in a book on FLASH
Review: The first thing you notice, as you leaf through this book is that there is NO color. This is very strange since the book is about FLASH. Aren't those the dynamic, eye-catching pages on a web site? So why would a book written about how to use FLASH be in black and white?

Generator/Flash is written in a small font making what little code there is very hard to read. The saving grace of this book is that it comes with a CD where you can find exercises. The chapters contain information on building templates and building a database.

Generator/Flash is a book that will help those who design for the server-side of web sites.

Summary: Much too slow, too much "look and feel" not enough Generator
Review: This book is too all encompasing of the design process for anyone who works in design. It is probably good for techies who have never done graphics before to get a grounding in "look and feel", but for me, it was a waste of time. I'm throughly familiar with the design process, I need generator specifics. It is a good book, just not as technical as I needed.

Summary: Great Book
Review: This book was extremely helpful to me and would be great for anyone in this field. Adeptly written and easy to follow, it really showed that the writers had a fantastic grasp on this technology and could convey that info easily to others.

Summary: Impressed
Review: With the publication of Generator/Flash Web Development, the technology world has found a new bible. From conception to completion, this book will take projects to new heights. I feel the book is a great learning tool (and interesting enough to keep even the neophyte's attention). The fourth chapter, Building the Template, proved to be most helpful. The care and precision taken by the authors is extensive. The knowledge demonstrated by Alvarez, Taylor, and Groch is vast, as are the possibilities that this book will open.
