Summary: Excellent book about ProDOS operating system but not perfect
Review: ProDOS and Beyond is a great introduction to the ProDOS 8 operating system for the Apple II series of computers. It explains in detail how to writeApplesoft BASIC programs that make use of ProDOS 8.

It also contains some information on assembly language programming, but is written mainly for the BASIC programmer. The assembly language programmer is advised to read Apple's official documentation.

One of the best things about this book is that it contains corrections to some errors in the Apple manuals. However, the book contained some things that didn't work well on my computer, and I suspected that these might be typographical errors in the book. Nevertheless, I rate the book highly.
