Review: Este livro ? muito bom. Apresenta o tema com coer?ncia e constitui uma fonte, n?o somente para dar introdu??o ao assunto, bem como correlaciona aspectos distintos de cada tecnologia. Ainda lembra muito bem de que as ferramentas dispon?veis de qualidade de servi?o em seus altos n?veis, nada mais s?o do que implementa??es de filas em seu baixo n?vel. Ent?o, qual metodologia de fila escolher? Quais as vantagens e desvantagens de cada tipo de implementa??o de filas? Recomendo para aqueles que querem n?o somente entrar neste assunto, mas tamb?m terem uma opini?o segura sobre a escolha de uma determinada tecnologia de QoS.

Review: Este livro é muito bom. Apresenta o tema com coerência e constitui uma fonte, não somente para dar introdução ao assunto, bem como correlaciona aspectos distintos de cada tecnologia. Ainda lembra muito bem de que as ferramentas disponíveis de qualidade de serviço em seus altos níveis, nada mais são do que implementações de filas em seu baixo nível. Então, qual metodologia de fila escolher? Quais as vantagens e desvantagens de cada tipo de implementação de filas? Recomendo para aqueles que querem não somente entrar neste assunto, mas também terem uma opinião segura sobre a escolha de uma determinada tecnologia de QoS.

Summary: Not a keeper
Review: I purchased this book when I started a project that was going to use RSVP. I was disappointed. They coverage of the protocol is OK, but the coverage of the information transported by the protocol is aweful. I was left with the questions, "OK, but what is RSVP good for?".

Summary: A little simplistic
Review: This book covers much of the same material as "Quality of Service" by Huston/Ferguson, and also has a chapter on QoS Policy management

If you're looking for discussion of topics like scalablity and jitter control, this is not the book. But if you're looking for a basic text that provides lots of background on concepts like delay, congestion etc. then it could be good.

The diagrams are great and I wish that there was a way I could scoop them into a Powerpoint presentation.

Be aware of the oversimplication though - eg. on p.101 they explain that applications often require "timely delivery" and give the example of streaming video. But then they say that web traffic or bulk data backup would also find "slow loads" unacceptable - thus obscuring the basic difference between latency and thruput.
