Rating: Summary: If the "dummies" book loses you, get this one! Review: I bought the "dummies" book to linux and it lost me about half way through. Linux is so different to me and all the talk about so many filing systems put me to sleep. Bottom line is I didn't "get it" and wasn't getting any work done. Then I came across the fast and easy book. Sure it's very simple. Lots of pictures to follow along matching my screen to the screen to the book's pictures. I got a handle on the edge of linux. Now when I go back to the "dummies" book, it makes sense. If your having problems with this OS but really want to know what the fun is about, try this book first. Sometimes it's not the subject matter that's the problem, it's the writer. This writer was helpfull. But don't expect detailed help here with configuration.

Rating: Summary: Very Very Basic Review: This book assumes that you know nothing about any graphic user interface. If you know Win95 then you already know 90% of what is included in this book. To be fair there are some introductory Linux commands and user administration. I did not find the extensive use of screen shots to be helpful.
Rating: Summary: Ok book if you have Linux up and running already Review: This book is good only if you have Red Hat Linux 7 installed already, and everything working properly. The book is dedicated to the graphical interface: KDE and Gnome. If you have it all set up, then you're good to go and start learning. If, however, you don't, look elsewhere. The book does a poor job on how to install Red Hat Linux 7 and troubleshoot the installation and other problems. It assumes everything you did went smoothly. Overall I think if you need help navigating around Gnome/KDE, and aren't familiar with ANY Linux tool, then go for it.
