Rating: Summary: This book is the vaste of paper... Review: ... you will not find any usefull information here, for example there are lot of discriptions of how to install services and so on, but no information about what this service is for and how to use it. Rating: Summary: Good Study Guide ? Maybe, Great Step By Step Reference Yes. Review: As a study guide this book could do better on explaining what to expect on this Exam. I personally found this book to be better at walking you step by step through various tasks. At times it edged on being to simple, at other times more detail was needed on the why. You need to know more about the usefulness of a task to pass the Exam. I still rate this book high because of its thoroughness in explaining how to do various tasks in Windows 2000 Server. Definitely a good choice to as one of a number of books you will need to study to pass the Windows 2000 Server Exam.
Rating: Summary: Need Improvement Review: I bought the book set for my MCSE update. I think the book covers wide area but it needs deeper discuss in many windows 2000 new features. For example, I know that the krbtgt account is used by the Distribution Center service. But the book never trys telling me how and why. It just reminds me to remember the word. It does not give us any reference page for the answer to its Review Questions (Sybex Windows 2000 Professional does). It has some mistakes, too. For Example: Question 6 of Chapter 4 (page 214). You are given 4 choices all with Boot Partition. All the given answers are wrong. MS MCSE Windows 2000 training kit says: "The first time a user logs on to a client computer running Windows 2000, Windows 2000 creates a default user profile for the user and stores it in the system partition root\Documents and Settings\user_logon_name foler (typeically C:\Documents and Settings\user_logon_name), where user_logon_name is the name the user types in when logging on to the system." System partition and boot partition happen to be the two diffrent parts in Windows 2000. One more thing, the WinSim does not have sound effect (Sybex Windows 2000 Professional Winsim does). You will have to watch each silent Winsim with a few moving mouse and guessing what purpose it is.
Rating: Summary: Nice pics, not enough detail Review: I used this book along with the Virtual Test Center, and it will not get you ready for the exam. It is a nice step by step tutorial. It should be sold as a reference instead as to what it claims to be. If you are new to W2K Server this will be a good introduction.
Rating: Summary: Another winner from Sybex Review: I've always been a fan of the Sybex MCSE Study Guides because they do the best job of getting you through the exams. When I go to take the exams, I feel like I'm back at my computer at home taking the EdgeTests on the book's CD. The Windows 2000 Study Guides are the best yet. They cover all of the material required to pass the exams. The book itself is very readable and informative, but the included CD is equally valuable. The new WinSim shows you exactly how to accomplish almost all of the administrative tasks that are performed in Windows 2000. There are so many questions in the EdgeTests that you will know the exam like the back of your hand when it comes time to get certified. The Palm and PC flashcards were just another great tool included on the CD. None of the other publishers, including Microsoft Press, measure up to Sybex when it comes to MCSE Study Guides. Sybex just seems to put more into their books than anyone else.
Rating: Summary: Thorough coverage of the exam material Review: I've always preferred the Sybex study guides for my certification studies, and this one continues the standard of excellence. The exam is a difficult one, covering a lot of subject matter, and this Sybex guide is good preparation (though hands-on practice is vital too). The authors make a good team -- their study guide for 70-210 (Windows 2000 Professional) is also excellent. Highly recommended.

Rating: Summary: Good Upgrade Study guide Review: Let's keep in mind that Microsoft deliberately chooses to ask questions from the core study areas, rather than the methods used for the NT MCSE exams. Therefore, no single manual will be enough as by its nature each study guide covers only ONE subject. Having taken the exam, I can say that your success will depend on your preparation and EXPERIENCE. I STRONGLY advise that you purchase the CORE study set before taking even one exam. This is the whole objective behind Microsoft's plan for the MCSE 2000 certification. To this end, this manual is very good - and Sybex's Core study guides. As usual, if you have any questions use the ON-Line manual with the software to further your preparation where needed. I wish you all luck.Patrick Diaz MACP, MCSE+I, MCDBA
Rating: Summary: Save your money Review: This book is really a great reference, but that's not what it's selling itself as. It's selling itself as a STUDY GUIDE. In that respect, it fails completely. It doesn't go into enough depth on any of it's subjects to give the reader an understaning at the level required to pass the exam. This is a great "Here's how to setup X" book. But the exam focuses more on configuration and theory than on "Click here for this, click there for that." I'm not surprised, with this book coming from Sybex.
Rating: Summary: Ok book, but don't expect to pass.... Review: This book will help in studying some of the concepts for the 70-215, but will not help very much in passing. Almost all books do not cover what is really on the test( I took test in Dec2002 ). The subjects and wording of the test is different than just about anything that you will encounter in the MCSE/MCSA books.
