Description:

Mac Answers! will help you figure out how to get the most from your Macintosh. Whether you merely want to get your modem to work right or you want to build a network, this book contains the information you need. It's an excellent all-purpose reference for Macintosh users.

The authors deserve kudos for their organization of this book. Imagine you have a Macintosh problem. You turn to the first page of the chapter that deals with problems like yours--say, the chapter on storage devices or the one on Internet software. There, you look at a table of contents for the chapter to narrow your search further and finally turn to a specific page with the question--and answer--you want. Answers can contain many kinds of information, depending on the question. Some are plain-English paragraphs that explain concepts and technologies, others are step-by-step procedures, still others go heavy on tables. In any case, you're able to find and absorb the information you need on the double.

This book's roster of topics goes on and on, covering everything from elementary file manipulation to the Internet and heterogeneous local area networks (LANs). There's information on buying and upgrading Macs, as well as extensive coverage of useful shareware, worthwhile games, and the little tricks that make Mac computing a pleasure. Coverage extends through Mac OS 8.5 and the iMac. --David Wall
