Rating: Summary: Good stuff Review: Being a newbie at Flash 4, I needed a book which would go thru the basics, but at the same time not leave me with a "Is that all?" thought at the end. I have to admit that these VQS guides didn't impress me initially, why? Maybe because the title implies "quick and simple". However, I've grown to really enjoy the series. Like others in its series, this book is very affordable, illustrative, and packed with more than enough information to get you started, but not treat you like a fool...I've got 2 chapters to go, and I can say that I've learnt a lot from this book. With many simple, but very useful examples, complemented with explainations and pictures, there's nothing else to complain about. All I can say is that this book is a great buy. If you've just got Flash 4, then this is a must! PS. The Photoshop 5.5 and 3D Studio Max 3 VQS guides are also very good!
Rating: Summary: Flash 4 for Windows -NOT VERY GOOD! Review: este libro me encanto para comenzar a entender el real funcionamiento de flash. Si bien no incluye un cd tiene ejemplos claros y sencillos que pueden ser reconsultados en caso de tener dudas durante los proyectos que uno lleve a cabo.
Rating: Summary: great series of books. Review: great series of books.
Rating: Summary: Good for beginners only Review: If you are new to flash, this is a good way to begin. You will have to buy a more advanced book for anything beyond the basics, however. There is no substantial information about the core of Flash, which is ActionScripting, and no pertinent step by step tutorials to learn from. This book is geared only toward the complete novice, but it is worth the price!
Rating: Summary: Get Launched into the Flash world with this AMAZING RESOURCE Review: Listen up all you web developers who want to energize web content with vector based animations: This book is the resource for anyone who is serious about Flash and maximizing its amazing potential at a rapid pace. At RAYHAWK.COM we have been using this book to enhance our web productions and the results have been noticable, not only to us, but to our clients (KFC, Taco Bell, BMW, Porsche, Deltamedical.com). This book is worth every dollar. Like all other Visual Quickstart books, it's straightforward and well written. It has the answers you crave with limited verbosity. The book teaches flash by providing the reader with clear steps on how to complete specific tasks. Excellent for beginners and a great reference for intermediates we personally think that all technical books should be written this well. The book is full of useful info and the author is fun and helpful. She assumes we have little prior knowledge with either Flash and by the end of the book, he teaches us how to produce some fantastic animations. RAYHAWK.COM Web Site Design, Glendale, California
Rating: Summary: ok intro Review: ok intro, but of little use after about a day. will get you up to speed, but barely.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Beginner's Book Review: Ok, it would appear that people have reviewed this one to death, but I felt the need to add my two-bits. Here goes: This book covers the essentials in learning Flash 4 from scratch (buy the book and download the trial version). Very well laid out with step-by-step examples to teach you all the basics/intermediates of Flash programming. My only gripe was that it didn't go into outside interactivity enough (i.e. Flash talking to Javascript to Flash). Now what would really be great is if the author would come out with a more advanced book. This book also makes a great reference with a decent index. Well worth the purchase price.
Rating: Summary: I was not in the Target Group Review: This book is great! If you've never touched a computer that is! I found the explanations long, and an insult to my intelligence...Create a new document Ctrl+N (Command N on the MacIntosh) no duuuuhhhh! I've mastered all the basics that this book covers, but I still feel I don't know Flash. If someone can recommend a book that goes in-depth, please e-mail me.
Rating: Summary: get up and running Review: This book will get you up and running in no time. With the online help/tutorials that come in Flash and this book alone, there isn't much keeping you from becoming fluent in Flash (except your own personal learning curve). To be honest, this is the only Flash book that I own. I'm not a Flash wunderkind but I am as literate with the program as I need to be. If you are looking to delve deep into actionscripting though, this book isn't the one. While it does introduce scripts to you, it doesn't go as deep as you may need it to.
Rating: Summary: A Solid Place to Start Review: This is a good book that covers the foundations very well indeed! Katherine Ulrich's "Flash 4 for Windows & Macintosh" can be used by two categories of people. FIRST CATEGORY: the absolute beginner to Flash and new to computers. This book is straight to the point, so you don't get lost halfway through the instructions. The chapters are short enough, so you don't get discouraged. Each segment within each chapter is small as well. You'd get through it no problems. No weirdo jargons make it a good walk in the park. SECOND CATEGORY : the beginner to Flash but computer-savvy. Because of the way it's arranged, you can skip parts you think you understand/know anyway (usually Windows concepts), so it makes the book a quicker read. Just read the parts you need to know about Flash. This made it much quicker for me to read this. Well done, Katherine. Since this is my first Visual Quickstart book, I may well look at the others...! Buy it as your first Flash book! Well apparently Flash 5 for Windows & Macintosh is coming soon. P/S : Final Destination is an awesome movie!!! Makes the Scream's and I Know What You Did Last Summer's look like sitting ducks in a dried out pond.
