Summary: Very Good Book--Concise and to the point
Review: An excellent resource. Our company has been working with SQL 6.5 and SQL 7.0 for the last couple of years and we have been thinking about migrating to SQL 2000. I was looking for a book that covers just the new stuff and enhancements rather than the basics which I am already familiar with.Also, I found the Chapters on Advanced DBA topics and the maintenance scripts especially the procedure for calculating the size of the database to be very useful. We have also been toying with the idea of supporting Oracle. Won't happen anytime soon but whenever that does happen, the chapters on the comparison of features will definitely help. Overall a great resource. Very good and comprehensive coverage. I will strongly recommend it.

Review: Excellent coverage of enhancements. The step-by-step approach is very handy and provides a quick reference. A must have on the self of any SQL Server DBA. Highly recommended. Comparison to Oracle is also good. Am already using the scripts and utilities from the book. Good Luck

Summary: Very Useful Book
Review: I found this book to be extermely useful for my work. Excellent code snippets in the Advanced DBA section and the T-SQL section. The comparison between Oracle and SS2K was very good as well. We run both Oracle and SQL Server databases in-house and I can now relate to the lingo that our Oracle DBA's talk about. It expects some knowledge of SQL Server so is not for novice users. Overall, a 5 star rating book.

Review: I found this book to be very useful for my work. For quite sometime, I had been planning on getting a book on SQL 2000 since we are planning to switch to SS2K from SQL 7.0 and was interested in the new features and enhancements that are available in SS2K. This book covers all of the issues in detail. The chapters on Advanced DBA topics are very good and the chapter on performancce debugging is especially very helpful. An excellent resource for anyone who works with SQL Server.

Review: I have been an avid reader of Mr.Sharma's article at swynk.com and sqlservercentral.com and like the way he presents the information. No munching of words, just pure technical information. He has done the same in this book. The chapters on performance issues, profiler, indexed views, collations and the section on Advanced DBA topics is very good. Even though the chapter on the XML Support in SS2k is good it only talks about openxml and the other native support provided in SQL Server, he should also have covered SQLXML as well which is one thing that is missing from the book. With the release of SQLXML 3.0, the XML functionality of SQL Server is very much enhanced. It is a very good book though, written with careful thought, illustrated with a lot of examples, no page fillers unlike most of the technical books out there. A definite buy.

Review: This is a very good book to have...He has the knack of explaining things in a very simple way. The examples in the book are very good. The advanced DBA chapters and especially the scripts chapter is excellent. I would have liked to see a chapter that talked about moving from SQL Server to Oracle since that is what we are in the process of doing. The chapters that explain the differences between the two RDBMS and the migration process from Oracle to SQL Server are very good though and did help me a lot. The SQL Profiler and performance debugging chapters are excellent. The improvements over SQL 7.0 features is written in detail and the examples are very good. The chapter on replication enhancements could have been better. A five star rating from my side. This is a good book for development as well as production DBA's and development managers.
