Description:
Taking the "Implementing and Supporting Microsoft Windows 98" exam (70-098) is an excellent way to satisfy the client requirement while working toward Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) status. It's also a popular way to earn a basic Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) rating. If your knowledge of this operating system is a little shallow--or if you want to study at a more leisurely pace--take a look at Exam Prep: Windows 98. Author Michael H. Jang dissects Windows 98 systematically, according to the published exam objectives. He begins with information on planning and executing a Windows 98 deployment and makes a brief detour into the Registry before explaining how to connect machines running Windows 98 to networks. He also provides good coverage of using Remote Access Server to turn Windows 98 into an intranet server. Later chapters deal with more obscure configuration and networking options. The contents of Exam Prep: Windows 98 are detailed, so you'll continue to find them useful as a reference after passing the test. The book includes a companion CD-ROM on which you'll find a Java-based quiz program (which means you can use it in your browser without first performing an installation routine). The questions on the CD-ROM are fine, but they're not presented in the adaptive format that would best prepare you for taking the test. --David Wall
