Summary: Not worth a second look.
Review: Don't waste your time or money on this one. Without the web site the projects are challanging at the least. About the only thing the book has going for it is an example of each of the filter effects on a graphic image - but then, they're presented in black and white rather than color.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Wait two weeks
Review: I emailed Prentice Hall about the missing web site. They said it would be up in about 10 days. I do like what I can do from the book, but not having the web site is frustrating.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: A cynical attempt to cash in, just don't bother with it.
Review: I found this book makes mislaeding claims for itself. i.e it does NOT help you "master all you need to get results...". This book wasted my time and cost me money. It was the first book i tried when attempting to learn photoshop and it discouraged me so much i though i would never manage it.

The writers waste your time with irrelevant scene setting chit-chat and then skimp on tips and explanations. The sequence and level of detail of the chapters in no way reflects the order in which you need to learn photoshop or the amount of information you need. The book teaches you how to do fancy things with filters that you might not use in a hundred years but doesnt give you any idea what the different words or icons on photoshop's menus and palettes mean. It just doesnt teach you the basics which will leave you extremely frustrated and it doesnt teach you the in depth stuff either.

I eventually gave up on this book. Only having paid out for two other books did i discover that it is perfectly easy to learn photoshop if you do have a good book. I now use photoshopo every day for web design. This is what you need to get from your books.

Firstly, a sound understanding of photoshops basic funcitionsi.e selecting parts of images; understanding layers; image modes and file types; and understanding how to adjust colour and sharpness. You also need to learn keyboard shortcuts. This book will not help you much atall with this.

Secondly it is worth getting a more in depth knowledge of photoshop to help make sense of everything you learn. This book will not help you, atall even one little bit with this.

Summary: examples created are not the ones used in final pages
Review: I got this book with the javascript book (by same group), hoping to recreate the examples common to both books. The Shelley biotech example uses rollover images in the javascript book for the main menu that are not created in the photoshop book, some other main menu images are created. So how were the rollover images used in the shelley example created? Who knows, the book skips to the Stitches example. I am very disappointed with this set of books, because one book does not stand on its own and combined, they leave gaps. If I could return them I would.

Summary: Looks good but I can't find the web page
Review: The book is supposed to instruct you by having you learn from "real world examples and a live web site." The only problem is that I can not find the web site.

The only site mentioned in the book is a site for the "essential" series. The other books in the series seem to have sites, but this one does not.
