Summary: Lots of Sample Questions, Missing necessary depth
Review: After successfully passing 4 of 6 exams, I was wondering which exam to hold for last... After purchasing this book purely by Amazon's readers recomendations it's pretty clear that IIS will be that last and final exam for me. As I will need to find additional study material for the IIS4 exam - this book has lots of sample questions but the explanations are too simple and quick.

Thicker books may be the way to for further and more applicable study in conjunction with this book. Use additional material to index and explain a concept or question in depth with this cram guide. Questions are great but without much detail in explaining a particular set of questions, this will not be your only study guide to successfully pass the IIS 4 exam.

At the time of my purchase of this book, it was rated above 4 stars - I hope to justify lowering that review a tad.

Summary: IIS 4 Essentials
Review: I found this book to extremely helpful in preparring me for the exam. The diagrams were straight forward and the text was easy to follow. I use IIS 4 on a daily basis and still refer to it when in doubt.

Summary: Pretty thorough but check out the exam criteria on Microsoft
Review: I passed the test with an 854 out of 1000 using only this book and the Transcenders plus some hands-on time in IIS 4.0 . My best EXTRA piece of advice is to go to Microsoft's web site and look at what the exam will test on. I got a lot (3 or 4 out of 55 questions) of ODBC error messages questions (SQL) on the version of the test that I took (non-adaptive version) and this book did not delve very much into this area. Other than that, it was very good.

Summary: Good for revision but not for beginners
Review: I use this book solely to study for about a month and pass the exam! However, there are so many simulation questions in the exam that I think the examples in the book are not enough. Therefore this book is best suited for revision BUT NOT FOR BEGINNERS.

Summary: It could have been better...
Review: I'm not going to bash this book because there are parts of it that really aren't bad. The content in this cram is not as good as the New Riders Fast Track IIS book, but it will give you a quick review of SOME of what's on the exam. I wouldn't recommend this book unless you have experience with IIS and just need a quick review. This book really doesn't do much more than that.

Summary: Not as good as others in this series
Review: I've been using the Exam Cram series to get me through the MCSE curriculum with a lot of success so far, but this book fell far short of what I've come to expect -- particularly in terms of the review questions, which often did not adequately reflect the material covered, and sometimes just made no sense at all. There's actually a question on page 98 that asks which of the following does Windows NT's basic authentication scheme NOT do: a) encrypt the password; b) encrypt the username; c) encrypt both username and password; or d) none of the above. Anyone with a rudimentary grasp of logic can see that c) and d) are fundamentally identical answers, yet the book claims only d) is the correct response. Duh?

Now they've come out with the Adaptive Testing edition of the IIS 4 Exam Cram book, which I think may have just been an excuse to get this edition off the shelves.

Try the adaptive testing edition instead. While I haven't read it, it's got to be better than this one.

Summary: Could have been better
Review: Not a bad book but it could have gone into more detail. A bit disappointing for one of the Exam Cram series.

Summary: IIS Exam Cram
Review: Not a bad book, but need to understand TCP/IP issues also and are not covered well enough in this book, use book and study suppliment only.

Summary: Quick and Easy way to go
Review: This book is a good book to help you get that MCSE elective credit... as long as you know or have the product. This is not a training manual, it is not chock full of exercises. If you use IIS 4 and need to know what to concentrate on for the exam, then this book is very helpful. If you don't have IIS, get a copy and make web and ftp sites and use this book as a guideline. Use it and EasyCert sample exams, and you should pass the test with flying colors, at a bargain price and in a relatively short amount of time.

Summary: This is a good book but review Microsoft's exam guidelines!
Review: This book plus the Transcenders testing software is a good combination to pass. Those two with a little hands-on and you should pass this test. I got an 854 out of 1000 on the test without too much effort. DO read up on ODBC error messages (SQL) as it was heavily tested. This book does not delve into much depth on that subject. Otherwise a good buy, especially used.
