Summary: Just touching this book.....
Review: I am a contractor for IBM. I borrowed this book from a coworker on a fluke incident. I noticed that other professionals were giving me other than normal professional compliments. I decided that if just caring the book brings on this type of response, then heck, I may as well read it. I am ordering it now. I will let you know how it affects my professional and personal life later. Bernard, Hotlanta, Georgia

Summary: Thisbook helped me pass NE with a 931
Review: I got this book to prepare for a retest on 70-58. I found the book better in many ways than the MOC for Networking Essentials. I already have the CNA for Novell and am on the path to MCSE. The biggest problem with the book and the CD is that they need to fix the typos, errors and omissions that make the book a little touchy to use. The company site has updates on the Cram series but not the Prep series. I plan on buying the NT workstation Prep book as soon as it is available.

Summary: Great Book...needs a little touchup though.
Review: I have read three books for Networking Essentials from cover to cover and paged though several others. This is my favorite. It covers the material you need to know, it does it clearly without wasting too many words, and it is at a good price. I teach Networking Essentials at the Lanop CNE & MCSE Test Preparation Center in Atlanta and I recommend this book to my students for supplementation. The Microsoft Press book is good but too wordy and twice as expensive. Nearly every MCSE book I have looked at has errors and this one is no exception. That's why you either need a good teacher or you need to read 2 or 3 books on each subject and reconcile the differences yourself.

Summary: Can be used as a Networking Learning tool as well
Review: I used this study guide along with Sybex's Test Success (ISBN:0782121462, read my review)and both helped me pass the 70-058 with a 900/1000. My only complaint was that WINS and DNS topic coverage in this book was null, and I was tested on these topics in more than one occasion on the real exam.

This book takes a while to read, but it gives you a wealth of knowledge. You will feel that you have actually learned something, which makes this book an excellent networking-terminology learning tool as well.

The CD tests included are challenging and they provide a good measure of your real exam readiness. I'd recommend taking these tests once each and only after you have mastered the material completely. The reason is that the test questions (and answer order) are not randomly generated and taking these tests more than once might actually hurt more than benefit your learning.

I recommend this study guide for its value as an exam tool and a networking reference. Complement it with a Cram book, the Sybex's Test Success book (mentioned above), or a source of practice exam questions (Measureup or Transcender) to tackle the NetEss test with confidence.

Summary: Complete source
Review: Perfect if used with MCSE Exam Notes: Networking Essentials [Mass Market Paperback] ISBN:0782122914

Summary: Great "first" book for highschool "interested" students
Review: There are alot of options of MCSE books out there to choose from. Many opinions relating to each book. I chose this book for it's unique organization. I refer to this book many of times. I am still a student, 17 years old, not quite a master of understand networks, but dedicated to passing exam 70-058. This book is not cluttered with "extra" no-use for words. I have no problem mis-agreeing or mis-understand the author of this book. Very well explained, compared to an instructor reading you the material. If your a student like myself and confused on which book to buy, take your time and read the contents, and decide if it is for you. This exceeds what i was "expecting" and permanetly "stated" the information.

Summary: GOOD BOOK ...
Review: This book helped me pass NetEss with a 933 .. It is a good book with very clear wording, which any person could understand.

I did find that there were a lot of typing and spelling errors, which does become a little much. It covers all that you need to know for the exam and will be core credit to passing. YOU MUST... also take some online tests which simulate the MCSE exam itself.

The book will definately go into my "handy kit" and will be a great referance. The reason this book lost a star was because of it lack of information on RAID(and typos!). Use another source of information for this topic! IT IS IN THE EXAM! Microsofts description of this would be the best to study.

ENJOY.. I HOPE YOU ALL PASS

Summary: Great Book...needs a little touchup though.
Review: This book helped me to pass the 70-58 exam with a 900 and I don't really have any networking experience. I would highly recommend it. I would however appreciate it if the publisher would reveiw it again for typos which seemed to be present in quite a few places. This could throw someone like myself off.
