Rating: Summary: Did anyone proof read this book? Review: I am not a student, but students should hate this professor. All code what he put in the book has errors. Under TCP/IP programming he decides to discuss VB 6.0 Winsock control, which does not work with VB .NET 2003. Wasting money.
Rating: Summary: Recommended Read Review: I found this book to be a very easy to follow introduction to VB.Net. With no prior VB knowledge at all, I was quickly writting a variety of VB.Net applications. The book has plenty of full fledged code samples spelled out for you step by step. If you want to learn VB.net in a hurry, I recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: GOOD BOOK-RECOMMENDED Review: I thought this book was perfect for a beginner. It gave just enough details without going to far or to deep for a raw beginner. I cannot give it five stars because it had a couple of typos, and the website where you are supposed to download the code, does not exist. However I typed in most of the examples myself, and they worked just fine....My one suggestion is that with the Web applications the author should have stated that you must have IIS or Personal WEb Server running to get the web apps to work. All in all it was an easy to read introductory book. It gave me enought of a start to allow me to move into VB.Net.
Rating: Summary: OK book, I recomend it Review: The books is a pretty decent introduction to VB.Net. Its not the most thorough VB.Net book, and there are a couple of typos'. However it is very easy to read, and it explains concepts quite well. ON the whole I would say its worth the cover price, especially for those with no programming experience at all, that are trying to learn VB.Net
Rating: Summary: Pretty decent book for beginners Review: This particular book has the distinct advantage of being easy to follow for a new programmer. Concepts are laid out in a clear, but concise manner, that anyone can follow. The examples are worked out in a step by step manner which you can follow. I only have a few minor complaints: 1. In some places the example code in the book wraps to the next line. However if you, not realizing that this is merely a book formatting issue, actually wrap the code you are writting to the next line, it will not work. A note explaining this would have been helpful. 2. The book is a bit short. I would have liked more in-depth coverage. However I can say that this book helped me get through the essentials of VB.Net and had me actually writting working programs in a very short time. I recommend this book for beginners wanting to learn VB.net.

Rating: Summary: Excellent Book... Review: Yeah there are a few errors and he apologized. I had the pleasure of having him as a professor. His book helped me a lot (regardless of the errors). All the students that used his book actually loved it. I don't think it should have been longer. It was straight to the point, no need for excessive garbage. I was very blessed to have him as a professor he's one of the best that's out there, because of the things he taught me I graduated as the Top CIS student in our class/school.. ---FYI, All students loved Chuck he never got below a 95 on student evaluations.
