Summary: Simply the best resource going.
Review: "Director in a Nutshell" and its companion book "Lingo in a Nutshell" are an incredible source and wealth of valuable information. If you have learned some of the fundamentals of Director and wish to expand your horizons, these books are a must have. I always recommend these books as a must read to my students here at the Vancouver Film School - New Media Campus. Excellent job Bruce and Thanks!

Summary: Director in a Nutshell & Lingo in a Nutshell shine!
Review: Director in a Nutshell and Lingo in a Nutshell are the best books around on Director. Period. No nonsense, great examples and a fantastic resource for every Director user - if you use the books as the author wants them to be used. They really ARE Desktop Quick References, not tutorials. For people that love never ending step-by-step exercises - look elsewhere. For people that need the best printed problem-solving help around on D7 - this is it.

Summary: 'A MUST HAVE' for the serious Director user
Review: Director in a Nutshell and Lingo in a Nutshell are the Director books developers have been waiting for. They are simply packed with valuable practical information for all Director users, no matter what your background and previous experience. The scope and in-depth treatment of the subject is unique and the time you spend reading these comprehensive books is bound to save you from countless frustrations and provide you with new insight. While these books are valuable at any level, beginners are probably better served by less detailed introductions rather than the encyclopedic knowledge presented here. Once you have gotten past the basics, these books are really a treasure! Written by an expert lingo guru who leaves no stone unturned, these books by Bruce are 'A Must Have' for the serious Director User. Thanks Bruce! geo@lingoman.dk

Summary: Simply the best resource going.
Review: I have been using Macromedia Director since version 1.0, and this is the best resource on the subject I have encountered in all that time. (I should note that it is actually only 1/2 of the best resource, since it should be bought with its companion, Lingo in a Nutshell.)

This is not a beginner's book and, although Bruce makes a conscientious effort to write to all levels, I expect that Director novices will be overpowered by the sheer torrent of information. I heartily recommend the book for anyone else at all, from advanced beginner to Xtra-writing superGeek.

If you have to take two Director books with you to a desert island (along with your PowerBook and solar generator), these are they. If you don't want to go to a desert island, give me the books and generator and computer, and send me instead.

Summary: A Superb Reference on Director
Review: What makes this the best reference book on Director available? Is it possiblethat everything you wanted to know about Director is in it? Look atchapter 1, How Director Works. Learn alternative ways to approach tasks in Director. Although a reference book, you will want to read every page afraid that a missed page could cost you days work. Open this book to any page from beginning to end and you will find something of true value. Bruce has assembled a HUGE amount of information for anyone using Director. Thankfully, the index is well constructed. Don't let the relatively low number of reviews fool you, if you want to get serious with Director you NEED this book. I suspect that all serious users already have it. However, Bruce was the first to say in the Preface that this is NOT a step-by-step instructional guide (my choice would be Director 7 and Lingo Bible for that). Bruce also posts additional information on his WEB site.

A fantastic value - get this book and watch your Director productivity skyrocket!

Summary: This book should be shipped WITH Director!
Review: Where has Bruce Epstein been? I can tell you, chained to his computer learning every little detail about this robust multimedia authoring system. Before Director In a Nutshell and it's sister book Lingo In a Nutshell, we were doomed to constantly read newsgroup postings, join special interest groups and purchase "add on" titles that often left you guessing.

This is an in-depth, well organized book, packed with information on the several versions of Director through 7.02. Included are tables, discussions about what and how to do almost anything you can think of, examples, and a nice touch...human language advice and perls of wisdom from the author.

Bruce Epstein has published books that treat Director the way Macromedia *should* have in it's user documentation. There is no stone left unturned here. And if that's not enough, Bruce can be contacted on-line...and he really does respond!

If you are new or a veteran of Director, you will want Director/Lingo In A Nutshell. A wise investment to be sure.
