Summary: Great source for Exam Prep
Review: Highly recommend this book for exam preparation. This book will help you focus on the materials necessary for the particular exams and leave you well prepared. Your exam prep should also include practice exams. Can't recommend the CD one way or the other, because after having read the other reviews I used SelfTest software for the practice exams instead.

I bought this book solely to help me prepare for the CLP exams, which it did. However, it was a little irritating that the chapters weren't organized by test content. This book was very poorly edited, but that seems to be the trend in most exam prep books, including the MCSE series.

I'm sure I'll continue to use this book as a reference guide from now on. It presented some things much better than the Lotus documentation ever did.

Summary: Excellent Test Prep
Review: I passed the SA1 Exam by studying this book without doing any preptest, even not the questions on the CD. The score was just a pass. I belive the best way to use this book would be. 1. Find the errata and correct them. 2. Take notes off the book if you can not bare with the mess after correction. 3. Find Prep Exams that you can get to refresh some key areas. Then, you will be ready for the exam. e.g. what's the home server really mean? COM port settings in the Notes.ini? etc. especially for SA1. You need to do 22 out of 34 correct answers to pass the SA 1 exam within 60 min. I am still using this book to study SA2 and AD1. But I will do more prep exam before the real one.

Summary: Very good study resource for Notes R4 exam
Review: I used this book to study for the R4.x AD1 exam and found that it was ok. The only problem was a great number of errors within the text and the software. Quite a few of the answers on the self test software were most defintley wrong.

Summary: Greate Book !! Minor Printing Errors - It's All You Need !!
Review: I've used Lotus Notes for about 2 years now, and when I decided to go for the Exam, I picked a couple of Exam Preparation Books for Notes 4.x. This Book was by far the Best. It Covered the Material in a Nice and organised small chapter topics. Each Chapter covered One Main Topic including Labs and Samples that help the Reader Understand the Material perfectly. Even some of the complex Administration Topics where introduced with Nice Little Funny Symbolic Stories that made the material easy to Know and hard to Forget. With the Help of this book I managed to get through all Lotus Notes Exams in few Weeks. This book is not for beginners who want to learn How to develop Large Scale Applications using Notes, but it does provide the Necessary background and all the available tools to get into Notes Development. For established Developers, this book will be an easy read through. For Administrators, it covers all the needed background in great detail and organises the Lotus Not! ! es Manual Material in a easy structure . I Highly Recommend this book. And I hope the Authors will follow with other Notes Topics and Domino Web Development Material.

Summary: Valuable, but not perfect.
Review: Pros: 1)This book prepared me to pass three exams on the first try. I thought it explained all the necessary material in a clear manner. 2)I found the 'Study Guide' section of the cd-rom especially helpful as it was configurable and allowed me to focus specifically on the areas I was having difficulty with.

Cons: 1)Errors on questions on the cd-rom were especially frustrating as I would waste significant ammounts of time before realizing that it was their error rather than my own. 2)The book's format makes it difficult to determine which parts are on which test.

One word of caution: After seeing the same questions several times on the practice tests, I found that my rising scores were as much attributed to my memorization of the sequence of answer choices as it was my actual learning of the content. To avoid such false assurances, it's too bad practice tests such as this don't shuffle in random false answers with each run, or at least change the order of them. Oh well.

Overall, I consider the book to be a necessary resource. Before one of the tests, I also purchased a download from Self Test Software. Their questions seemed to be closer to the ones on the exam and I scored three questions better than my average on the other tests. But for the extra money I don't know if it's worth it, seeing that the cost to re-take a failed test is not much more than that. Good luck to all.

Summary: Great format, but should have been proofread better.
Review: Since it had been quite a while since I took the system administration classes at an LAEC and I wanted to take the SA1 and SA2 exams, I bought this book to help me prepare for those exams. It certainly served me well as I scored VERY highly on both tests on my first try, but there are many errors in the book that can be confusing and misleading to someone who has less background knowledge of Lotus Notes. I found the practice tests on the CD to be very useful, even though there were some errors there too.
