Summary: Great Resource for Beginning and Intermediate Webmasters
Review: After looking through quite a few HTML web page resources in my new job of putting together web pages, I was pleasantly surprized by the completeness and "readability" of this book. HTML commands are explained from an expert viewpoint, but not with so much detail that the reader becomes bogged down. Steve Callihan has written his book from the perspective of what a Beginning or Intermediate Webmaster will need, covering not only the HTML language, but also shareware text editors, graphic editors, and additional instructional resources.

Summary: Title of Book delivers....and then some!
Review: I'll give this book a perfect 10, why? because the book kept the promise of it's title and taught me to create my first web page in a weekend. This a well written easy to understand book, that is loaded with tons of examples!(the best way to learn anything)If you've been surfin the net for a while now, and are ready to take the plunge into learning HTML, then I highly recommend this book to get you started. You will quickly learn all the essentials of HTML on a step by step basis. And by the end you will be ready to upload your first web page. Other books assume you already know too much and use hard to understand terms. Not this one! What are you waiting for? The time to learn HTML is now

Summary: A killer companion
Review: If you have never looked at HTML before, this is a great book to get you started. Expect no reliance on commercial web editors, this book tells you how to create your web pages in Windows Notepad or a similar text editor. The tools he gives you in this first book match and exceed what a novice would get using a template from a commercial web editor. If there is anything negative about this book, it is that it makes transition to a web editor harder. With the essentials this book offers, it is easier to pop into Notepad and make the change than to figure out the software. All in all, I don't think that is such a bad thing.

Summary: The basics of HTML and Web page design for the beginner.
Review: Steve Callihan has done the busy layperson a real service with this book. He lays out a simple weekend's work focusing on simple Web page design, layout, and construction. The reader learns basic HTML, a little about the architecture of simple Web sites, and simple techniques for building and interactively checking a new Web page. He also includes the compulsory background - "What is the Internet?" - and a well-tailored Resource Directory of sites with useful information and downloads.

Yes, it really IS tailored to a busy person who can carve out a weekend, or just part of one. Yes, you WILL be setting up your own Web page by Sunday night (even with the distractions of kids around the house or a briefcase from the office.) You won't become a graphic artist; you won't really understand image compression schemes or the subtle differences between browsers; and you won't win any awards for your first site. But you'll have your feet wet and know a lot more than you did on Friday. Highly recommended.

Summary: If You Are a Beginner Get This Book
Review: This is a great book!!! The author does a great job explaining what each tag does and also shows examples in the book. If you read this book starting on Friday, you will be able to construct a webpage on Sunday. My advise in regard to using this book as a guide is to type all the examples from the book into notepad and see how it comes out as you read the book. That way you'll have an easier time remembering some of the code when you create your webpage on Sunday (you can also use the book as a reference when creating your first webpage). If you already know basic HTML, then skip this book and purchase a book that goes more in-depth in regard to HTML such as a Sam's book(I just ordered the Sam's HTML & XML book, but I have not gotten it yet).

Summary: Great book for the first web page
Review: This is is not the better of Mr. Callihan's two HTML books. It is fine if you are just interested in putting up a basic webpage, but too cursory for intermediate to advanced users. It does have a good explination of the Web and the Internet and their basic protocols. It also details the basic anatomy of HTML. However, the tables portion of the book is limited at best. Both frames and forms are omitted for the most part.

Users interested in anything more than the most rudimentary webpage should look to Mr. Callihan's "Learn HTML in a Weekend."
