Rating: Summary: Needs Focus Review: Auerbach is one of my favorite publishers, they know how to put out a no-fluff book, but this time they and the author missed the boat.It is a fine book, well written, the illustrations, while spartan are clear. Sadly, I can't figure out who the target audience really is, who can benefit from this book. There are books about things and books that teach how to do things, this is about things. It attempts to cover all of information security related to a network in under 400 pages and the result is too technical for managers and lacks the depth an implementor needs. In the end it feels more like reading an expanded glossary than a book. The author is clearly smart and well read, I liked the 3 page conclusion a lot and if that approach and tone were used througout the book this would be a great resource for decision makers that are not afraid of a bit of technical material.
Rating: Summary: The Best Defense is a good... Review: library. As a networking professional servicing enterprise accounts, my bookshelf is filled with CISSP test-prep books and manuals. I needed a view of real-world security challenges and business justifications. This comprehensive book provides that. I'm happy with my purchase and recommend the book.
Rating: Summary: Great book on security Review: Really goes into the "why" of security, rather than how to setup a specific brand of router. Very interesting and informative chapters on everything from VPNs to Public key encryption to the questions to think about and ask while creating your own security policy. Very well written and easy to read with a few humerous comments thrown in. Highly recommend it to anyone starting in the security field.
