Rating: Summary: Dot Calming; Substance and Technique Review: An injection of humanity and sanity into the high tech frenzy many of us call work. While focusing on the technologically driven professional this well-written work identifies the struggles we ALL have in managing work and career while seeking to make time for our families and loved ones. Laid out in a problem-solution format, this easy to read yet deeply thoughtful book first explains the expectations and behaviors that contribute to our stress before offering both practical solutions and ways to implement them. Touching "testimonies" of the struggles and victories others have experienced are laced throughout the book. I have found that many such books either deal with the "philosophical" issues of balance in life, or tend to be endless lists of "techniques" for regaining control of life. Dot Calm is a well-balanced mix. A book you will need to reread and reflect on to mine its depths while it offers very practical and doable ideas for taking your life back from work. Be careful! This book could be an epiphany for you. It was for me, I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: You know that feeling, "too much to do, too little time?" Review: Debra Dinnocenzo and Rick Swegan know that feeling, too. The only difference between them and you is that Deb and Rick figured out how to make that feeling go away. Buy this book let Deb and Rick share with you all that they've learned.Being happy is a choice. If you would like to choose "happy" instead of "tired, stressed out, frustrated and angry," all you need is a little guidance to help you make the correct series of small choices that all add up to "happy, happy, happy." Think of this book as your kindergarten teacher; let it take you by the hand and lead you safely to where you need to go. This reviewer gives DotCalm two thumbs up, a big smile and a resounding hooray.
Rating: Summary: A Promise Delivered Review: I can not count the number of products and services that have come my way heralded with much hype and false promises of their value to the user. That's been especially true of self-help guides. You know the ones that promise you'll be a changed person, if only you buy the book and implement its recommendations. Well, at long last one of those books delivered on the promise. The foreword states that "you'll find these pages to be filled with practical, how-to advice .... step-by-step formulas for finding ...and keeping balance in your life." As a poster child for the insanity of the wired world, I really did not know how to break out of the strangle hold it had on my life. It became easier and easier to rationalize absolutely crazy behaviors related to my out- of- balance existence. The authors of Dot Calm were surely writing about me or so it seemed. I expect many of its readers will feel the same identification with the analysis of being over-connected, over-worked,over-scheduled, over-informed and ultimately OVERWHELMED. It's a book you'll read in one sitting and then reread many times as you take back control over your life. Thanks to the authors for delivering on their promise.
Rating: Summary: Dot Calm: The Search for Sanity in a Wired World Review: It was great finding a book that offered helpful suggestions in a very readable style to the problem of staying in touch without getting overwelmed by our high-tech world. Best of all was the insightful nature of the book. The distinction between balance and congruence was so important. The authors recognized the reality of human spirituality and the blows it can suffer in our wired world. A fine book for anyone who has caught the wave of techno-communication but still wants to stay sane.
Rating: Summary: A Reality Check!!! Review: It was the title that first caught my attention. The book lived up to my expectations. I found Dot Calm to be an easy, entertaining read with which I could identify. The real beauty of the book is it's action-orientation. You read about the issues (eg, overwired, overworked, information overload) and then learn how real people are successfully dealing with them. The authors outline practical ways to balance family/work time in this "information age". We may never return to the pace of life found in Mayberry, but Dot Calm puts you on the right road.
Rating: Summary: Dot.Calm brings some High Tech Calm Review: Just as Ms Dinnocenzo introduced me to sanity and organization trying to be a telecommter in a wired world in her 101 Tips for Telecommuters, I realized a missing piece. And I found it in Dot.Calm. She explained problems that I could not put into words. But the best part of the book was her and Rick's four specific solutions for dealing with technology when you must be able to communicate with others you don't see. She addresses the real human problems in this techno world. Now I feel like a survivor who can communicate successfully and make money doing so!
Rating: Summary: How true it is! Review: Reading Dot Calm was a pleasant, and eye-opening experience. I liked the research base and well-constructed format and decided to look it over during a plane ride. I was shocked to discover just how much technology was controlling my life. Great ideas, easy to read and very thought provoking. Lots of helpful tools to get control back and remember WHY you are connected!
Rating: Summary: Why I found this to be so important! Review: Reading this book made me realize that I was passing up so much in my life because of work. I had forgotten the importance of family and friends even though I talked a good game. I used to tell people that I had to leave the country to be "disconnected" since I couldn't leave e-mail or voice mail alone. I think I allowed that this was okay since I was in sales and always had to be responsive to the customer. Truth be told I thought this was cool. dot.calm made me realize that I was not being true to what I really wanted and just as important gave me ideas on how to get there. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to put some balance in their lives and is looking for a guide on how to do it.
Rating: Summary: Dot Calm - The true meaning of life. Review: The frantic pace of our world is overwhelming. Technology is able to keep us connected 24/7 and many of us have allowed it to invade every minute of our lives. No wonder we experience personal systems overload! This book really delivers what is implied in its title Dot Calm. We are all seeking to balance our work, home, family, community....you name it. Dinnocenzo and Swegan have done their research and offer practical advice on how to discover and reconnect with what is important. We can choose a better way and this book guides us in that process. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to reclaim their life.
