Summary: Could use some improvement
Review: Being a student in an engineering department, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I actually enjoyed the course and the book, the enrollment of which was originally to fulfill the liberal arts requirement.

The authors wisely avoided convoluted prose and unnecessary jargons (those necessary are explained in the margin). The organization could be improved, i.e. the hierarchy of themes and subthemes can at times be vague, inconsistent or plain confusing. For example, often a discussion of an issue contrasts the pro and con views in a clear dichotomy, yet certain discussions falsely lead the reader into expecting that the opposite view be presented next, only to jump into something else entirely. And, ah, the font: what bigger irony is there than a book devoted to discussing media persuasion that is printed with repulsive font?

I wish the book had paid more attention to trend watch and cultural commentary; less attention to profiles of industry personalities. There is nothing more stultifying than seeing another dollar sign prefixing someone's salary figure after pages of box-office revenue and newspaper circulation tables.

Summary: Masc151 Review of Book
Review: I find the book to be very informative and pretty up to date about current technology. Granted it has its parts were the book is useless because of new events in the technology world, but for the most part it is a good tool for learning Mass Communication technology. The text book drags on in certain spots, but for the most part it stays interesting. Overall this is a good book for Mass Communication students.

Summary: More than a good text
Review: I haven't finished the book, but so far, it's easy to see that it does everything the ideal textbook should. The information covers advancements in media technology from Gen. Sarnoff to the Telecommunications Act of 1996 and beyond. It's easy to read and understand without being pretenious. For a student of mass media, the information is such that it can be applied across the disciplines. Finally, the book makes a point to encourage readers to make use of technology (internet, etc.) to further exemplify what's printed in the pages.

Summary: Right Now!
Review: I think the text book Media Now is an excellent source for all types of media related material. It touches on the history of media, all they way up to the new, inspiring technology. As a Masc151 student, I definitely find it informative and easy to read. Also, the book comes with a compact disk, that encompasses all the information in the wonderful text book. It's an alternative study tool if you don't feel like opening the book. I highly recommend this book for any prospective mass communications major.

Summary: Review
Review: I thought the textbook was reasonably priced and extremely informative. This has been one of the most beneficial textbooks I have bought while in college that I can use after this semester for more reasons than sitting on my bookshelf. I found myself learning more about the different medias we use on a daily basis as well as how technology has changed throughout the years. Overall, I thought the textbook was well written and I would recommend it to other Mass Communication classes.

Summary: Media Now...and where it all started
Review: This book is a great source of information for anyone who wants to know about media now and where it started. There is so much information about books, newspapers, magazines, radio, and the internet. These are just some of the many topics that this book discusses in detail. Whether you are a college student or someone that wants to learn about the information age, this book will definitely be useful.

Summary: Finaly not another boring text book
Review: This book is good for it's purpose. It is very imformative with it's history on the media studies. It it very up to date with it's information and history on the internet and today's sources of information. I wasn't real keen on the reading it because of the lack of interest that the book keeps me. The imformation is interesting, but not very exciting.

Summary: Mass Comm 151 text
Review: This is an excellent book that helps you to understand the communication devices that are used by media today. It has an interaction CD that is very useful for understanding this information. The book is well written so that the points can be understood by anyone.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Best general text on mediated communication available!
Review: Treatment of all advanced media is comprehensive and astoundingly up to date. This is enhanced by reference links to websites amplifying topics offered in the textbook. Rather than a textbook, this publication is the basis of a system to comprehend the continuing change in the information society. Most individuals and institutions offering or interested in the information society should be reading and using this book.
