Rating: Summary: Not CCIE stuff Review: An O.K book for starters and who want to get to know a bit about N/W design. But, it's too non-technical to be of any use to designers. Definitely, not CCIE level. Not worth buying if you can get same info from cisco web-site
Rating: Summary: Want to design a Cisco Internetwork? This book is for you Review: Full of some very usefull case studies, this book has good approach towards network design. As a candidate for CCNP, I used this book to get some additional knowledge, from a practical point of view.
Rating: Summary: not so good as most people's review Review: in fact, it just explains more deeperly than the ccnp routing book and don't get the step that expounds the routing protocols throughout.with all other cisco books , they are only technologies guide.
Rating: Summary: Case studies - nothing more. Review: It's really just a case studies book. If you want to look at typical examples how people use Cisco equipment - it's a right choice. But if you want to dig deeper in some particular area, or if you want to learn networking background you should read something else. I like this way to explain purpose of this book. Let's imagine you met a good Cisco guy and he let you stand behind him and watch how he does his job for a little bit. You can grab some tricks, get some vision of the process, but he is not trying to teach you. It's a good addition to the strong theoretical background but not a replacement.
Rating: Summary: Save the fifty bucks and download free from Cisco Review: The book is a great reference, reads very well and has a lot of useful information. BUT, all the chapters, case studies, and appendices are available from Cisco's website under their support and documentation subject area. Of course I put 2 and 2 together AFTER I bought the book.
Rating: Summary: *Great* CCIE exam prep - but not a configuration guide! Review: This books is probably the best guide to designing networks with Cisco products that I've seen... and very important to someone preparing for the CCIE exam. Where R. Giles' "Cisco CCIE Study Guide" is geared toward preparation for the written exam, this book focuses more on the Cisco practicals needed for the lab exam. The case studies, especially, provide insights into the kinds of scenarios one might see during the lab test. My only complaint is that some of the included configuration examples have incorrect command syntax. The only way to tell, however, is to try it in a lab, or refer back to the Cisco documentation. As painful as that can be, it's also good practice for the lab exam!
Rating: Summary: Good Book - but not study material Review: This is definately not a book to use to study for your CCIE, but it contains an amazing amount of information on a wealth of different topics from Routing protocols(including BGP4), APPN, SNA, ATM, Multicast, etc. It will sit on my desk as a great reference.
