Summary: The Clearest Guide for the Beginner
Review: I must have bought a dozen books on C++ in trying to learn this language without any prior programming experience. This was far and away the clearest and most helpful guide to the subject. Even the "Dummies" books on the subject--there are several--which pride themselves on simplicity and clarity of exposition didn't come close to this volume. If you are a beginner, I can't urge you strongly enough to choose this book as your introduction to the subject.

Summary: Much Like Every Other Average C++ Book
Review: Instant C++ programming is a fair programming book. The layout is good and the material is paced well. One major quirp I have with this book is a error I encountered in one of the very first programs they have you write. I got compile errors in MS Visual C++ 6.0 and Bloodshed Dev-C++ 4.0 even after having two people check my syntax for entry. In a larger program I would understand, but right at the begining when someone is writing their second program ever? Thats a major recipe for frustration. Aside from that this book is very very average, and unfortunatly joins half a dozen other books just like it on my shelf while I search for a truly good C++ book. The C++ Primer Plus looks like a good bet.

Summary: AMAZING - A Must Get For Beginners!
Review: Read every C++ tutorial on the internet? Read every C++ book? Every guide? And don't understand any of them? Neither did I. Until I stumbled across this book. It's clear, precise, has tons of full examples, describes what every line of code does and why it is there, and even has a little worksheet at the end of each chapter that asks you to code certain things based on what you leanred in the chapter. This book may have the word 'Instant' in the title, but it's great for slow-learners funny enough! I am SO glad I found this book becasue I feel like I finally understand what I'm reading about C++. Everything else seems to be in another launguage. It's so funny that books like 'C++ in plain english' or 'C++ for dummies' are so more complex and NOT for beginners, yet 'Instant C++ Programming' is perfect. So stop reading this and GET THIS BOOK!
