Summary: Technically Superb
Review: I have been involved in Terminal Server since the very start of the Beta programme, and after reading this book my knowledge has grown in leaps and bounds. This is the only Windows Terminal Server book that has managed to go deep enough into the subject matter to make a real difference.However, saying that, it is also a superb book to learn the basics, and leads you in gently to understanding what Thin Client Computing is all about. If you are serious about designing, implementing, testing, and deploying Windows Terminal Server then you cannot do without this book - Its the Bible for Windows Terminal Server - Go and get it. Summary: Not a book for hands on TS Administrators !
Review: I think this book is highly overrated. This book, excluding appendices, is only 219 pages long. Of that 219 pages, approximately 170 deal with planning and PREPARING to use Terminal Server. Maybe 40 pages are worthwhile to someone wanting more than an introduction to TS. Architecture, theory, performance monitoring, basic NT administration and basic networking constitute the bulk of this book. Only 5 pages on using Application Compatibility Scripts ? This is probably the most difficult aspect of administering TS. 3 pages on TS printing, and nothing about automatic printer mappings ? This is another very important part of Terminal Server. I think this book is a good introduction to TS, but after reading the above reviews I was expecting much more. If you want something more than an introduction, plus some added info about Citrix Metaframe, which significantly enhances the capabilities of Terminal Server, I would buy the book by Harwood. Even this book is not complete, but it's the best of the 3 Terminal Server books on the market.

Summary: MS-Press screws up again
Review: Once again MS-Press has neglected to include the CD-ROM key for the 120 day eval version of NT Terminal Server. How many times is MS-Press going to continue to make this exact same mistake. It really is very frustrating. The book does not include any information concerning the actual setup and configuration of Terminal Server. Although the book provides excellent insite into project planning before deployment, it falls far short on addressing installation problems and concerns both during and after deployment. The book is valuable for technical insight to the RDP protocol. There are however much better texts out there; particularly from New Rider publishing

Summary: Helping me out already.
Review: Recently I had to setup and configure a Windows NT Terminal Server, I thought it was just another application for NT Server and that it would be a couple of hours of work. I had no idea how wrong I was until I started the process and half way through I was completely lost. I obtained a copy of this book and after reading over what you can and cannot do I began to understand that Terminal Server if more complex than I first imagined. However this book has done a great deal of teaching me those things that now make it easier to understand everything. Within the 400 page you'll find topics like Terminal Server components as compared to Windows NT server. Also how the terminal server architecture works, what goes into the desktop protocols and clients. There is suggestions for performance testing, how to deploy the Terminal Server and how to configure and administrate the applications. Since setting up the terminal Server I have been able to install applications which is also included in the book. Finally there is troubleshooting tips, optimizing, compatibility and scripting help along with appendices for error codes, commands and automation tools. The cd-rom included does have a 120 day evaluation of Terminal Server. Overall this book has already helped out and I foresee more help coming.

Review: This book claims to be written for the expert but wastes most of its content on how to write applications for terminal server. There are perhaps two items of value. The rest of the book meanders through unuseful information for the implementation of Terminal Server. There are better books out there.
