Summary: Su nombre lo dice todo: Orientado a la Certificacion
Review: Compre este libro intentando matar dos pajaros de un solo tiro: tener un buen libro que me sirva para obtener la certificacion y adquirir un libro que me sirva para la vida diaria con Solaris.
Tuve que afrontar el reto de mover mis conocimientos de administracion hacia Solaris y camine un poco hasta dar con este libro, lo ojee y lo compre, pero luego de haber hecho lo mismo con un par de libros adicionales, haber estudiado los tres libros y haber tenido que recurrir a los mismos en busca de informacion, este es mi consejo:
Es un libro terriblemente orientado a guiar al lector paso a paso a travez de lo que significa el proceso de certificacion. Sin embargo, su nivel no es el mejor, pues halle mas informacion sobre los mismos temas en otros libros.
Normalmente los libros de certificacion cubren cada posible tema de un producto, por ello son buenos y sirven para la vida diaria tambien. Este libro no, de hecho he hallado mas informacion y mas practica en otros libro como: A practical guide to solaris y solaris administration a beginner's guide, que en este.
Honestamente creo que podria vivir si el, y a no ser que desees exclusivamente prepararte para obtener la certificacion, no lo compres. Ademas de ello piensa que si deseas obtener la certificacion, el libro no cubre el detalle al gigantesco mundo que vive bajo el nombre de Solaris.
Espero que mi experiencia y consejo te sirvan.

Review: I decided to buy this book prior to attending a Sun Admin course to avoid being totally lost in class.
While this book contains a wealth of theory and real-world scenarios, it contains sections that aren't on the exam (backup tools - 'cpio' and 'dd') and a lot of the command options listed in the book weren't stressed on the exams. The way it is organized is a little crazy at times. The actual exam questions come right out of or are based on scenarios used in Sun literature... and that literature is word for word with Man Pages and similar to Answerbooks Best thing to do is PRINT OUT THE EXAM OBJECTIVES to know what you need to know and what you don't, use this book to clarify (and it will) anything you have trouble with. I used this book to better understand and illustrate the topics of the exams objectives, especially Part 2 and passed both.

There were very few questions I couldn't answer because they weren't covered in the book. Read each chapter in the book and answer the study questions in the CD that comes with the book. You'll be ready for the exam.

Summary: Great Book, CD, and Website!
Review: I passed the Solaris 7 Part 2 exam on my first attempt using this book- what more can I say. The ExamGear CD-ROM has the best exam simulator I've seen. The questions on the CD helped me digest the material and I was able to link to the author's website (UnixEd.com) to download more questions for the test engine, which was an added value. Definitely the best value out there for getting certified. Now I'm using the test engine and book's website to study for Solaris 8. Finally, I'm certified, now I just need to find a better job!

Summary: Good solution to get 310-009 and 310-010
Review: I used this bood to prepare for SA1/2. It's nice book, and nice training application on included CDROM. But on SA1 and 2 exam I got about 40% questions which I've never seen before. This is not problem of this book, may be this is problem of SA1/2 %). Anyway, I passed the exams. And I appreciate help of authors of Solaris 7 Administrator Certification Training Guide.

Summary: Lots of info but...
Review: I would not depend on this book alone to provide you with the necessary information inorder to pass the Solaris cert exam. I especially would not use the CD practice test for the exam. I found a few of the questions in the practice test that were graded by the program as correct, but actually were incorrect.
I used both this book and the Sun Education books that are distrubuted by Sun when you take the Admin I and II classes. If I only studied Bill Calkins's book and not the Sun Ed books I would not have passed the cert exams. The only true study book for the exam is the Sun Education books. Unfortunately, it's not easy to get a copy of the Sun Ed books unless you take the courses or know someone with copies. As a source of reference for general day-to-day Unix administration I would give the book 4 stars. One last comment, a Unix book that provides a practice test program on CD that won't run on Unix (Solaris nor Linux). Not a big issue, but this is kind of funny if you think about it.

Review: In fact this book is only brief conspect of VERY GOOD originaly Sun Solaris documentation. The text contains so lot of mistakes that makes this book ABSOLUTELY useless. The mistakes in the commands formats make you confusing and disoriented...

Summary: It quite good
Review: The book is quite good, it covers all of the objective topics with sufficient detail. I suppose it could be enough to pass the exam alone if accompanied with a few sets of practice questions.On the other hand, I have to mention unnecessary repetition of some topics making the reader little bit bored. For example, the problem may be caused by the use of user ids higher than 60000 is mentioned about 5 to 7 times. Anyhow, a minor problem that makes one remember better. Finally, I think the companion CD is great. There are sufficient number of questions (more than 200 for each part). And I especially like the question history options letting you to review the Qs you are bad at or hiding the ones answered correct more than n times. Finally, this is a nice book. And can be purchased especially if one has previous Sol 7 experience and would like to take 7 exam.
