Rating: Summary: Another cooking hit from Marcia Adams Review: For cooks who like to read the background of their recipes as well as the interesting history of the Amish and Mennonite communities, this is an excellent title. The recipes are clearly written and easy to follow. My family has enjoyed many of those that we have made. I found that Adams' insight to the these groups made my appreciation of the Amish and Mennonites as well as their work ethic and cooking skills even greater. Excellent gift for the cook on everyone's gift list.

Rating: Summary: Finally had to buy it! Review: I discovered this book over a year ago, at the public library. I read through it, and after I returned it I would find myself thinking: "I wonder about <insert recipe here>", and either my wife or I would have to go back to the library to check the book back out! When I realized I was getting the book almost monthly, AND it stayed at the local branch because that's where I last returned it, I realized it was time to buy it!With that little story, the rest of this review is simple: This is an excellent cook book. This is not a 'healthy' cookbook. There's no focus on lean, loosing weight, or heart-happy cooking here! This is good, rich, smother-it-in-gravy country cooking. If you know the Amish, and you have visions of the men coming in at dusk from working the fields all day to a kitchen table stacked with fresh, home-cooked *American* food, this is your cookbook. It simply doesn't get better than this.

Rating: Summary: Great recipes, pictures, and unique view of the Amish people Review: I have all of Marcia Adams' Amish cookbooks - the recipes are very clear as well as delicious, and her sketches of Amish life are extraordinary. This cookbook is the best of the lot. The stereotypes of "Witness" are not here - these women are real, and they deal with the trials of everyday life (children, housekeeping, cooking, husbands, etc.) just as the rest of us do. The pictures that accompany the text are as good as the recipes, and the recipes are wonderful (try the Perfect Pie Pastry on p. 270 - absolutely foolproof). This is as wonderful a book as it is a cookbook - read and enjoy!
Rating: Summary: So appreciate your kind comments. Review: I'm so glad you like NEW RECIPES FROM QUILT COUNTRY. It was recognized by both USA Today and People magazine as one of the top ten cookbooks of 1998. It has been very gratifying to read all these positive comments about my book. Please consult my web page monthly, because I will continue to write about the Amish, gardening, book reviews and more recipes. Essen Gut!
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: Originally from the heartland of Amish Country in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, I found this cookbook outstanding. It bring's back many memories as a kid with it's recipes. I live in the sunshine state now and sometime's miss the great food I was raised with. To have found this book and have been able to make the recipes for my family has been great! I hope Marcia Adam's plan's on writing more like this one.
