Rating: Summary: Sandra Lee will make your life SO much easier. Review: I had never heard of Sandra Lee until I watched her on a morning show here. Some of the recipes she brought on the show were things I had not seen before which is unusual because I have WAY too many cookbooks. She said they only took a few ingredients and were ready in 30 minutes, including prep time. I thought 'we'll see'. I went on her website ... and got the recipes and tried them and they were just as she promised! So I bought her book which has some of the same recipes plus a lot more. She does a nice job of offering all different kinds of recipes for different meals and occasions and even offering music and wine selections for each. Of course you may not have the CDs she recommends. The recipes I have cooked for my family got rave reviews at my house. And sure enough they took only 30 minutes, give or take. Sandra Lee really does make cooking easier.
Rating: Summary: Buy it already! Review: I have only had this book two weeks and I have already tried five recipes. Every recipe has turned out better than I had hoped. There are no hard to find ingredients, no two-page directions, no elaborate cooking equipment or supplies to go out and buy, no fancy cooking terms to learn, no experience necessary! All you need is half an hour and an appetite because these recipes are good! I have just placed an order for three more books. Guess what my friends are getting for Christmas!
Rating: Summary: Sandra Lee vs. my mother-in-law Review: I have to admit- I am not the greatest cook in the world. My mother-in-law is always ruthless about the dishes I have prepared. I invited her and my father-in-law to dinner last Saturday and they could have sworn that I had it catered by a gormet chef! All of the dishes were made from recipes from Semi-homemade cooking (and it took me hardly any time at all). This cook book is absolutely unbelievable! Thank You, Meg
Rating: Summary: Semi-Homemade Review: I love this book! Its such a fresh concept, especially for a full time working mother of 3. Full of great time saving ideas! This is a great christmas gift for people who love to cook, but dont necessarily have the time.
Rating: Summary: My New Favorite Cookbook Review: I never buy cookbooks anymore. They are all the same and I already have more that I have room for. But when I heard about this book I thought hmmmm. I decided to try it.I like the wide range of foods and recipes it offers, but at first I was a bit put off by all the brand names, like some others seem to be. I too thought maybe Sandra was getting paid to endorse them. But then I saw Sandra on the Today show and she said the companies didn't even know she was using their products or naming them in her book. She said she uses Bon Appetit editors and testers to help test the recipes and uses what works the best. In my experience, the brand names have turned out to be an unexpected benefit. It's true that they are sometimes a tad more pricey, but most I had in my pantry already and there is no question that they are quality. It does take the guesswork out of grocery shopping and food prep, especially when you are pressed for time. And you really can't quibble with the results. For making a great tasting meal in a hurry, you will find this book very usaeful and recommend it to all your friends.
Rating: Summary: Domestic Diva..I'm on my Way! Review: I purchased Sandra Lee's book after seeing her on the Today Show. She made everything look so wonderful and easy that I figured I had nothing to lose. I'm a working mother of three and have very little time to myself with running to soccer, dance, piano, and football. My life is not my own. This is the book that has made me look like a domestic godess! I prepared a wonderful meal for some friends Saturday evening and received rave reviews. The Triffle Dessert was a show stopper!! Martha Stewart watch out, I think we have a new queen of entertaining. I highly recommend Sandra Lee's book. It is beautifully photographed and has easy step by step directions. With some nice table linens and flowers from the supermarket...I fooled everyone into thinking that I slaved all day in the kitchen. The best part of my dinner was that it is fool proof, easy, and allowed me to spend more time enjoying my family and guests. I am giving a copy of this book to my sisters for Christmas! Thanks Ms. Lee and keep up the idea's for us average Americans with busy schedules.
Rating: Summary: semi-homemade Review: I was so excited to be able to get your book Sandra ... I love it! It makes meals and delicious desserts so much easier to prepare. I am not much of a cook anymore, and don't really want to spend time in the kitchen. Life is so short and there is so little time to enjoy my grandchildren as it is. Your book has opened the door to quick, easy, and wonderful tasting food throughout the day. Which as a bonus gives me more time to spend with the ones I love most. The fact that you have named brands to use which worked for you, was even more helpful to me. There is no guess work and I am confident each dish is going to turn out wonderful every time. I look forward to another book like your Semi-Homemade Cooking .... Thank you again for several great cooking experiences ....
Rating: Summary: Fabulous quick meals Review: I watched a TV show in Dallas, TX in which Sandra Lee presented a few of her recipes. This convinced me to go out and purchase the cookbook. On Sunday I prepared the Caramel Popcorn for the football games. It was easy and quick to prepare. I had to make two recipes at seperate times it was so fantastically good. The guys and kids loved it. After the game I made the Southwestern Turkey Chili and Corn Bread. I dare anyone to not like the corn bread. It is sooooo good. This is chili country and let me tell you that this chile is great. Quick preparation and there wasn't a drop left over. The shoppping was easy and the prep was fast, easy and few dishes to clean. I recommend this book for everyone. My daughter tried the Berry Cookie Cobbler for dessert. We did it in a large baking sish and with Vanilly ice cream it was to die for. I recommend it to end a great easy meal.
Rating: Summary: Outdated already! Review: I went to two stores trying to find the exact brand name products that Sandra Lee insist we use. Frustrated, I asked the store mananger who told me that the products I was looking for, Campbell's fat-free mushroom soup and Jello refrigerated vanilla pudding cups are no longer available in my area. Why make such a big fuss about using this or that brand when they aren't even available? I won't waste any more time travelling around town looking for the exact brand names needed to make the recipes in this book.I have better things to do! Maybe this book needs a "use-by " date before even more products become obsolete.
Rating: Summary: a quick fix for bad cooks Review: I'd like to say that I'm an avid cook but the truth is I am mediocre at best. So anytime I can make food that looks great, tastes great, and gets me in and out of the kitchen in an hour I'm a happy camper. This book does all that and more. It is well laid out with each recipe attractively presented, with everything from soups and salads to dinner and dessert. I especially like the pepper peach chicken skewer. It is in the lunch chapter but I make it for dinner. I could eat it every week and so far I have! I recommend this book to anyone who likes to cook but doesn't want to or can't cook well from scratch. I give it four and a half stars!
