Summary: I have never made a good cake until...
Review: My cakes have always flopped even from a no-failure mix! My husband had suggested that I just make pies(they are as good as his mothers he says!) I first read about The Cake Mix Doctor in the Atlanta Journal Constitution and tried the receipes from that article. And surprise they were fabulous! I have now bought two books; one for my daughter who only bakes cakes from scratch and didn't believe my claims...she is a convert now too! Cake mix cakes can be delicious. I'm looking for reasons to bake cakes. I'm starting at the beginning and going to the end of the book trying every receipe! My family and neighbors love it.....

Summary: Take Me to the Doctor!
Review: As did the other reviewers, I found this book both easy to use and full of delicious recipes. Some recipes are better than others at hiding cake mix taste and my own personal pet peeve, cake mix texture (Wonder Bread cakes). However, all of the recipes I have tried (several!) I would make again. The best thing about this book is its readability. I love to settle down and read a good cookbook. This one has fun introduction to each chapter as well as to each recipe, and the color pictures at the beginning are a real treat. It's a great book for the nightstand as well as the kitchen.

Summary: The Cake Mix Doctor
Review: I read cookbooks and I own hundreds. I haven't owned this book for long, but so far I've been impressed. Directions are well written and easy to follow. The pictures in the book looked like something I would create, not something a master baker would prepare. Some good helpful hints, especially the shortening/flour mixture. Cakes have more texture to them and don't taste like a box mix. This is one book that I have purchased that just won't sit on the shelve. It will be used again and again. If you enjoy baking and are looking for an addition to your cookbook collection, I would recommend The Cake Mix Doctor.

Summary: Doctor the Frosting
Review: As a former professional baker, I've made a lot of cakes. Without a doubt, the recipes in this cookbook produce some of the most delicious results you'll ever come across. A few ingredients added to a basic cake mix and you have something your family and company will truly. My only concern is with the frosting/glaze recipes. Without exception, and I've tried the Caramel and Cream Cheese Frostings and Chocolate Glaze, the ratio of fat to confectioners' sugar is off. The recipes produce frosting/glaze that is too thin to stay on a cake. My suggestion would be to keep extra confectioners' sugar on hand to make whatever adjustments you deem necessary. Perhaps humidity or weather conditions have some bearing on this. In any case, try the book, you won't be disappointed.

Summary: simply delicious
Review: I have hundreds of cookbooks and this has become one of my favorites. Recipes are simple to prepare and taste delicious. Anne Byrn also puts some great helpful hints throughout the book. A must have for those who cook from scratch and those who don't. It is so nice to see color pictures of each cake. This book would make a wonderful wedding shower or birthday gift.

Summary: They Loved My Cooking Before, But Now . . .
Review: I have to say this book is simply fabulous. I end up baking a lot either for school or simply events at home and although people always liked my way with regular cake mix and frosting, they are in love with Ms. Byrn's recipes. I have to admit that I am too and find myself wanting to bake all the time, a fact none of my friends seem to mind too much . . .

Summary: The Cake Mix Doctor
Review: I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys baking but doesn't always have the time to start from scratch. I just bought this book 2 weeks ago and I have already made the Chocolate Covered Cherry Cake and the Ooey Gooey Butter Cake. Both recipes were delicious and easy to make! Anne Byrne offers so many yummy sounding recipes and some really unique ones too. This book is definitely a must have!

Summary: The Cake Mix Doctor
Review: I found this book in the local library. I came home read it and knew it was a book that I had to have in my collection of cook books. It is FULL of neat ideas and recipes. I thought I had all the cook books I needed but this one is a must have to add to my shelves. I know I will be using it often. It is so practical and easy to follow . I wish this would have been avaliable when I first got married. It would have made learning to cook delious homemade cakes a breeze!

Summary: a reader from maine
Review: I can't believe how much I like this book! To me, if it's not from scratch, it's not really baking. But I was wrong. These recipes are fast and taste terrific. The pumpkin spice cake got rave reviews from my husband's office and at school. The chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting was also good. I will use this book often!

Summary: A Must for The Cake Baker!
Review: As an avid baker as well as cookbook collector, I am always on the lookout for new cookbooks on baking. I was, however, somewhat skeptical about a cake baking cookbook that relies primarily on boxed mixes. What a surprise! I love this book so much I can't stop trying new recipes and have been giving the finished goods away just so I can try a new recipe! The introductory comments are extremely helpful, especially in explaining why one would choose to use a cake mix, rather than bake from scratch. Each recipe's ingredient list is typically short and the prep time is next to nothing, so you can really turn out baked goods on a moment's notice. I have now tried a number of the recipes all of which have turned out fabulous. The only drawback is that this cookbook focuses on basic cakes and doesn't include any fancy type ingredients or frostings that one might find in other baking cookbooks.
