Summary: So, the American version is "slightly" off....
Review: ...---British measurements are different from American, etc.
THAT explains why the Norwegian Cinnamon Buns are so far off!! I have made cinnamon buns for years, but thought I would try this new version---first of all, the directions say nothing of dissolving the yeast in warm water, and secondly, the proportion of the flour to the liquid is not correct. I have the buns in the refrigerator for the second rising in the morning & am anxious to see how the final product fares, after adding several more cups of flour to get the dough to a reasonable ball shape.
So far, I am not impressed at all, and find the ...price high for recipes that are not accurate. Good thing it was a gift--I would not have bought it at all.

Summary: This Is It!
Review: Do you want to experience accomplishments in the kitchen you didn't think you could achieve...Are you tired of run of the mill sugar laden recipes...Are you tired of buying cookbooks that end up forever on the shelf after one recipe is made...Do you want your friends to say "Wow, this is delicious, where did you buy it?"...Do you want recipies that are so good you really can't wait to make the next one...this book, without a doubt, Is The One! I've had it for about 2 weeks now and I've made 4 items already...I haven't baked this much in years!! My first choice was the Marzipan Fruit Cake - let me just say -this ain't your grandma's fruitcake!! Buy this book - it is worth every cent!!!!

Summary: Comparing the American and British versions
Review: I was unfamiliar with Nigella Lawson but thought the recipes in this book looked extraordinarily good. I bought the book (American version) and tried making the Blackberry Galette. While making the crust, I thought there was way too much fat and water in proportion to the flour and cornmeal called for, and sure enough, when baked the crust dissolved into mush - really quite tasty mush, though. Knowing that the European practice is to weigh dry ingredients rather than use volumetric measure, I got on Amazon.uk.co and ordered the British version of the book. A week later I repeated the recipe, and sure enough, the American version had underestimated the flour and cornmeal by about fifty percent, at least the way I measure dry ingredients. This time the recipe came out as advertised. I'm wondering if anyone actually tested the American versions of the recipes, or if they were translated directly from the British version using standard conversions. At this point I would give the British version 5 stars, and the American version 4 stars.

Summary: Absolutely fabulous!
Review: What a wonderful book! Nigella's wit paired with her cooking skills make for a great read. Every recipe I have tried has turned out great. It's easy to feel like Nigella is in the kitchen with you, coaching you along. I would recommend this book to anyone who has an interest and love for food and cooking!

Summary: I'M IN HEAVEN!
Review: This is an excellent book both for its recipes and for those nights when all you want to do is just kick back with a great book and snuggle up in bed. Her style of writing is refreshingly down-to-earth Her recipes are well written, easy to follow and written in such a way that you almost feel as if she's right next to you, guiding you through the whole process.

I love her recipes for:
Molten chocolate babycakes
Sour cream chocolate cake with sour cream icing!

Summary: Not just another cookbook!
Review: I must say this is the first cookbook I have read from cover to cover! Last week it was my evening reading! I am always surprised when people say you can't actually make Nigella Lawsons recipe's! I have never had trouble with the way the things turn out. I made the recipe for Blueberry Muffins this weekend and they were less sweet than the American version. At first bite I was not sure if I liked them but when I gave them another try I found that it wasn't the recipe but my American palate that had the problem. They were wonderful and with a little jam, as N. Lawson suggests, and they were perfect and not sugar overload. Give this book a try, you won't be disappointed!

Summary: fantastic
Review: Upon baking about 5 things for my daughter's birthday party last year, it was like a best friend taking you by the hand and making the journey so delicious and so simple. Her brownies are so simple and out of this world. The taffy apple recipe is also the best. The only problem I had was figuring out what all the different sugars were....Upon asking some british friends, I realized it was basically white and brown sugar!

Summary: Food For Thought
Review: Being a single man in the throes of mid-life ( I'm currently 46 ) many friends of mine have long suspected that, if asked, I could not say with any certainty where the kitchen is located in my flat. Obviously that is there not so gentle way of informing me that I truly do need to, from time to time, make myself much better acquainted with that long neglected area. A room where I feel completely ill at ease and one in which feels as if I'm entering a dark, forboding dimension. And, unfortunately, one in which I am ill equipped at best. With that in mind I recently purchased a copy of " How To Be A Domestic Goddess: Baking and the Art of Comfort Cooking " in a sort of desperate plea to save myself from the clutches of fast food chains and frozen dinner entree's that is the closest thing that I, sadly admitting, have to 'home cooking'....other than being entertained at various friends homes and having them take pity on me by cooking an actually fully realized meal. For which I am extremely grateful!

With all that being said, Nigella Lawson's book has been, save for one or two minor 'accidents' that I've committed, an absolute 'Godsend' in helping me and my complete lack of baking talents. The recipes are done in painstaking detail and the photo's show the finished product in all it's glory. And while I will freely admit that the end result of my cooking doesn't always mirror the photograph's in her book at least it allows me something to strive toward.

Nigella's prose is extremely chatty and very intimate in a comfortable, getting-to-know-you sort of way. Unlike some recent cook books I 've come across she has a wonderful way of putting the reader at ease when attempting something new i.e. breads, cakes, cookies and even jams ( which I may never muster up the courage to attempt! ). And while my none of my creations have come out looking quite as extroadinary as her's I suspect half the fun is in the trying! Ummm.....at least I do hope so! Obviously for the 'culinary challenged' male, such as myself, a book such as this is not only an education but an entertaining way of getting more comfortable in an area where we once found ourselves 'visiting' if only for that morning cup of coffee! Plus, of course, now instead of just entertaining friends with a wonderful cup of java I may have a wonderfully delicious surprise the next time someone comes over. And if that isn't comfort than I don't know what is. Thanks!

Summary: Yummy Yummy Yummy In My Tummy!!!
Review: I bought this book for my current goddess of the kitchen and she loves it. Better yet, I looooooove what she's been making. The author (British hottie Nigella Lawson) writes in a witty and concise manner that seems to be very effective--my sweet housemouse has been cooking up some of the best desserts (pies, cookies, cakes, you name it!) I've had in our two short years of marital bliss when previously the best I could get out of her was store bought snacks and nasty glances. This book is tops!!

Summary: Just watching Nigella ...eat...on her show made me buy this
Review: I have to admit that I knew nothing about Nigella Lawson until her show came to America. England didn't exactly have a reputation for their "Great" food. Actually it used to be quite boring and bland, but those days are over, and thank goodness! This book is not for the faint of heart or weakling, as it is quite large, bigger than any of my other cookbooks, but it is amazing. This girl knows how to eat and doesn't give a darn about calorie content, her goal is to "comfort". Comfort food and low cal dishes are not synonymous. But this book is not about the calories and isn't that a pleasant change! So proceed with caution and enjoy the fun food, beautiful pictures and keep some alka-seltzer near by.
