Rating: Summary: Marcella-I relive my childhood through your recipes! Review: This is Italian food the way my Piedmontese Grandmother made it. My favorites are the risottos, pasta sauces and chicken recipes. The simplicity of the recipes is amazing, with most having fewer than a dozen ingredients. Some of the pages in my book have so many splatters from use that I'll soon be ordering a second copy!
Rating: Summary: Indispensible Review: An exceptional cookbook. Practical and informative, it makes good reading even when you're not working in the kitchen. I've made several dozen of these recipes, and every one was a winner. I've found, however, that in most recipes you can cut the fat (oil or butter) in half and still wind up with excellent results. Some of these recipes, in their original form, are real heart-stoppers. Awfully good, though!
Rating: Summary: I wore out my mother's copy Review: There's not enough praise to heap on this cookbook. The appearance is clean, the text easy to follow, the recipes diverse. I had orignally borrowed my mother's copy to make her artichoke lasagna but I hung on to the book long enough to fall in love with her other recipes. After I renewed it twice from the library, I decided it was finally time to take the plunge. I have no regrets with owning this bible of Italian cooking.
Rating: Summary: If I had to pick just one cookbook, this would be it. Review: This is an extraordinary cookbook. It has recipes to tempt every palate. If I had to pick just one cookbook to own, this would be the one. The recipes in this book are clear and easy to follow, and in addition, Ms. Hazan tells us about ingredients, which kind of eggplant is best, what kind of pasta would be tasty, etc. She also has sections on technique, such as how to make pasta. These recipes are the kind you can make and make again and not get sick of them. There are many simple yet extremely tasty dishes, such as my favorite, smothered onion pasta sauce. Truly, this is a great cookbook that everyone should have. I can give it no greater recommendation, except to say that I shall be living abroad for half a year and only have room for a few books, and this is one of the few I'm taking.
Rating: Summary: This provides techniques and several recipe variations ..... Review: I use this book often for its techniques, recipe combinations, and variety. It is a truly complete guide to Italian food.
Rating: Summary: This cookbook gives unamericanized recipies Review: This cookbook is the best, after living in Italy for 3 years I can see that her recipies are reflective of the true goodness of Italian cooking. I can't hardly put this cookbook down.
Rating: Summary: Stunning recipes...orgasmic classic Italian food! Review: This is absolutely the best Italian cookbook I've seen. The results are stunning. Just the best of Italy!
Rating: Summary: The most useful cookbook I own. Review: Of all the cookbooks that I own, I use this one far and away more than any of the others. From appetizers and soups to desserts, the outcome is always a delicious and flavorful meal. I have given this cookbooks to so many people as a gift, and all of them have loved it as well. Recipes are simple and easy to follow, ingredients are usually low in number and are not usually exotic or hard to find. She somehow manages to turn the simplest of recipes into a treat for the tastebuds.
Rating: Summary: Best cookbook ever! Review: I have well over 1,000 cookbooks and this is the one that I use the most. The recipes are well written and easy to follow. The ingredients are easily accessible - in fact I usually have most things in my cupboards. Every recipe that I have tried in this book has worked prefectly. When looking at some of the recipes there seem to be so few ingredients that you wonder just how tasty the finished dish is going to be, however because of the techniques used you are NEVER disappointed. Just to give you some idea of how much I have cooked out of this book, I have cooked every fish or seafood recipe except for 3! My two favourite recipes in the book are the Mussel Soup and the Tomatoless Osso Bucco. If you are looking for a good Italian cookbook this is it.
Rating: Summary: If you only get one Italian cookbook, this is the one. Review: Everything I have made in this book has tasted
wonderful, mostly because the recipes are
well-tested and the directions excruciatingly
clear. Besides, the food is great! I've
never had another cookbook that was so fail-
proof and with such tasty results!
