Summary: A tour de force on grilling!
Review: First, I usually hate books that call themselves a bible. They usually fall far short. This one, however, did not. I simply don't have enough adjectives to describe the shear magnitude of this book. The author spent *years* going around the globe learning BBQ/grilling, and it shows. (Not that I'd mind a job like that)

The variety of recipes is simply staggering, and to date they have all been phenomenal. As my wife puts it, they've all been "better than you can get in any restaurant". The 'Lettuce Wrapped Thai Chicken with Peanut Sauce' is simply sublime (and I don't usually like peanut sauce). Even skipping the main recipes, the rubs, marinades, and sauces that are somewhat downplayed are all incredible.

Tack on to that some truly great stories that practically take you there. (No, it's not essential reading, so if you don't like 'em, skip 'em).

Second, this is not a basic grilling book in the true sense of the word. It *does* have all the basics one will ever need - and you could stop there (I believe it contains almost everything from his 'How to Grill' book, though not as nicely illustrated). It does, however, contain so much more. Anyone who wants a simple "How-to" book should probably buy his other book.

Summary: Great (Barbecue) Cookbook.
Review: Not only does this cookbook have great recipes for the outdoor grill, but many are adaptable to the oven with outstanding results. Raichlen even has a large number of vegetarian recipes, all packed with the intense flavors one expects in a barbecue book. His book covers barbecue classics from all over the globe. It sometimes has long ingredient lists, but most recipes are actually simple to follow, and the many ingredients are what makes the recipes authentic. Today I made just-like-the-restaurant Afghan coriander sauce in ten minutes, on the first try.

This is one of the most useful cookbooks you could ever buy. Don't hesitate. There's something for everyone who enjoys flavor-packed food.

Summary: One of the best barbeque recipe books that I have ever seen
Review: If barbequing is one of your hobbies, this your book. There are hundreds of recipes in this book that will enable you to conjure up many different flavors on your barbeque. In fact, I have used all of Steven Raichlen's books and found them to be indispensible. To get started, I got this book as well as "How To Grill" and really fired up some great food.

Summary: Like a Phoenix from the Ashes
Review: This book is wonderful. Having always been a mediocre cook on the grill, I have always admired people who could turn grilled food into a masterpiece. Those same folks, who in the past have inspired me, have been amazed at the transformation in my cooking since I bought this book. My wife wants me to make a Brazilian Garlic Marinade and grill fish every weekend. Try this book with his SAUCES, RUBS AND MARINADES. You'll love it.

Summary: FANTASTIC!!!
Review: This book is amazing. Steven Raichlen knows his Barbecue. This book covers all different regions. Everything from Thai, Indian, Pakistan, Australia, Brazil, Japan, etc... - every type of Barbecue you can think of. Everything is flavorful, creative and interesting. Gone are the days of of the typical American sweet barbecue sauce. Although the traditional recipes are included in this book, it is the recipes from other countries that make this book great. Even if it is too cold to barbecue you can make this stuff indoors. TRUST ME - This book is fantastic!!!

Summary: The Barbecue Bible
Review: This book is fabulous! Most BBQ books assume a lot (like how to tell if your charcoal grill is set to high, or how many charcoal bricks you need to make it high) -- this book covers that in the front, and much more. Additionally, it has some great recipes, with a wide variety of styles.

Summary: THE BEST COOKBOOK EVER, AWESOME, Makes Grilling and Art!!!!
Review: I swear, I would have paid DOUBLE the hardcopy price for this book alone JUST for the "Basic Rub" and the sauce that goes with it.. The first time I made it, I doubled the recipe--because the ingredients were so intrequinging (I've made the rub FOUR TIMES) since then...We've made this recipe (with chicken) FOUR times in about 1 1/2 weeks, I call it the "chicken that keeps on giving." So flavorful, you could NEVER ever eat chicken like this in a restaurant... I felt like a culinarnary genius when I decided to make that (and can't wait to show case this recipe even more) people are going to think I am maniac in the kitchen, thankx to Stephen, and I immediately told my all friends about it. Last night, 9 months pregnant, I made four more sauces (BBQ rub), the Cranberry Sauce, the sweet and sour ribs and ALL WERE Awesome, different and flavorful... I disagree with the one critic... That felt 19 ingredients in the basic rub were too many. You've gotta be kidding!!! Any homemade BBQ or rub is way way better than anything in a Jar (and that poor person is sadly missing out on this book))).... (I bet all this person has is Salt and Pepper on the shelf any cook worth his/her salt (has the ingredients that Stephen lists-he is not asking for anything "unusual" or exotic)... If Stephen (the author) told me a 40 dollar avacado would make a dish, I would be the first one in line to purchase it---this is one brilliant culinary genius. (If food can "Change your life" I believe this chicken has done it for me) let alone the four sauces I made last night. All worth the time, effort, and expense. A big seller for me is a "description" of the food and a history. "I like the chatty way of "talking up the recipe" and I disagree with the one person that 'lost a star' because of this. I like a "conversational" fun author, who in the world wants just a basic recipe with no information... If all my arms and legs were chopped off and I couldn't cook. I'd still buy the book for fun of it. My only regret is I've packed my freezer head-to-toe with Stephen's food and can't fit anymore BBQ in it... I almost want to go out and buy another freezer, except for I am scheduled to have baby number 2 in a week. I never ever in my wildest dreams thought that BBQ could be so good... THIS IS THE BEST RECIPE book, I have in a collection of hundreds... Man, would I like to meet Stephen Raichlen and lick his toes... (Emeril Lagasse does not hold a candle to him)...

Summary: Too many ingredients
Review: If you like a cookbook that requires you to have multiple ingredients per recipe, this book is for you. I like cookbooks that have useable recipes from things I probably have already in my home. This cookbook is too complicated. Just to make their "Basic Barbecue Sauce", you need to have 19 ingredients. I would rather pay 99 cents and buy it at the store. I was truly disappointed with this book. I bought it for my husband and it has sat in the cupboard.

Summary: WOW- TERRIFIC RECIPES!
Review: As a very busy person with no time to bake and little time to cook, the barbeque is my life line. There have been times that without it my family would probably have starved. You have not become a die-hard barbeque chef until you stand in our thirty degrees below-zero Canadian winter weather, with barbeque fork in hand, as you desperately jog-in-place in a winter parka to keep the rest of you from freezing! To the book's credit, the recipes are fantastic and soooo delicious! Being a veggie lover, one of my favourite sections was on salads, and the sauces are absolutely mouth-watering. The recipes come from all over the world and there are enough here to keep you sizzling away for a year. However, my personal preference would have been for the author to eliminate his travel experiences, or simply save them for another book, and stick to the recipes alone. For that reason, the book lost one star in my rating. However, do not let that deter you from buying the book; these recipes are sure to spice up your life and make you the hit of your next patio party. We all need a Steven Raichlen in our back yard!

Summary: Great for outdoor cooks of all levels
Review: The Barbecue! Bible is a great grilling and barbecueing reference and cookbook, suitable for cooks at any expereince level. The first great quality of this book is its breadth. In addition to hundreds of recipes it covers some of the basics such as, how to grill the perfect steak, temperature guides, and equipment suggestions.

Second, the recipes cover the most simple (The Great American Hamburger) to some truly exotic dishes from the many cultures of the Pacific rim, to the spice of Latin America, to the classic tastes of Europe.

Third, it is easy to use. Categorized by course (starters, salads, entrees) and by protein type (or vegetable), the book is easily navigable.

I received this book as gift nearly two years ago. It remains one of my most frequently used cookbooks and has provided many, many crowd pleasing meals.
