Summary: Have no fear, Julia is here!
Review: Such precise, detailed instruction makes the world of pastry & breadmaking accessible to the novice. Expect extraordinary results and you will not be disappointed! Worth every cent.

  Summary: Great food!
Review: The bagel recipe alone is worth the price of this book. Not too hard if you bake with someone you love and you can go crazy with ideas for toppings. If you live in Albuquerque, Wild Oats is the best place to go for toppings like dried onions, etc. You will be sure to find many recipes you love in this book and perhaps a few which will become your standard "potluck" contribution.

Summary: Julia strikes out with Generation X.
Review: The pictures are beautifully done, and the text is angelically laid out and easy to read, but some of the recipes have been here before. Where's the old Julia? The Julia with a mission? Where is the innovation? The refreshing recipe's with unusual and invigorating results?
They are certainly not in a showing here. sweetened condensed milk and cream cheese for cheesecake? What a surprise! Unlike "Cooking With Master Chefs" by Julia, this book seems to repeat that same old formula that the modern cookbook trends. Classic Hollywood style over substance. Making a book for the coffee table instead of the kitchen. Believe me Julia, we aren't fooled by it anymore. Just because you put your name on the book, doesn't mean that it is worthy of you. Bring us back to the brilliance of "From Julia Child's Kitchen" and "Mastering the Art of French Cooking Vol. 2." Books that inspire the soul. Get your head out of the oven, and back into what you do best. Bringing the world to culinary mastery. Back when I was a kid, I was forever traumatized by the Saturday Night Live sketch with Dan Ackroyd portraying Julia Child. Quite frankly, it has left a spot on me as well as the rest of my Gen. X comrades ever since. But I was relieved when books like "The Way to Cook" came out. Showing me simply and brilliantly how to make divine and interesting confections. I fear the troubling headaches have come back since reading "Baking with Julia"

Summary: A comprehensive book of the best breads I have ever tried
Review: This book contains easy to follow recipes for a variety of breads, desserts, and pastries. My wife and I are avid chefs and have tried over 30 of the recipes--and only two were less than perfect. (The semolina loaf was too salty and the strawberry cake was too soggy.) We highly recommend the savory brioche pockets, the Persian naan, and the rustic potato loaves--ahh heaven. The book also includes several full dish recipes, incorporating the bread, many of which are vegetarian friendly.

  Summary: yay!
Review: This book did for my baking what "The Way to Cook" did for my cooking. I prefer Julia Childs's writing style to Dorie Greenspan's, mainly because she's funnier. Ms. Greenspan certainly does a fine job, though. Her explanations are extremely clear and encouraging. It's nice when someone includes so many asides along the lines of --- "Don't freak out when blank happens, just..." I would have thought I had ruined my brioche dough and my croissant dough without these encouraging little remarks. The photography is truly beautiful, too. It's the sort of cookbook you want to have open in your kitchen at all times just to look at the pictures.

Summary: Fantastic lessons, but do not attempt without a Kitchenaid.
Review: This book goes far beyond recipes, it contains comprehensive lessons in baking. Within each recipe, many paragraphs are devoted to the techniques, and sometimes chemistry, that makes the recipe work. But as you'll find out from reading a few of the recipes, or just watching the PBS series, you won't get very far without a Kitchenaid stand mixer. You'll be hard pressed to find even a handful of recipes that don't contain the words "in the bowl of a heavy duty mixer..." That said, with a Kitchenaid, you'll be on your way to a world of delicious and often easy to make cakes, breads and pastries. I cannot even imagine attempting some of these without one.

  Summary: Beautiful book, superb recipes!
Review: This book has quickly become one of my favorites for Baking. I have made several items and everything has turned out beautifully and tasted great. The Boca Negra and Rugelach have become traditions. The Scones and Challah are delicious as well. Baking with Julia is very deserving of the awards it has won and I have recommended it to many cooking enthusiasts.
