Rating:  Summary: Fantastic! Review: I am a cake decorating novice and I found this book absolutely fantastic! The measurements threw me at first but once everything was translated into metric, I was away. The instructions are fantastic, the photos are fantastic, the selection of cakes and ideas is fantastic. I made my first novelty cake (a vintage car) from studying the techniques used in this book and everyone loved it. I think there is a cake for every occasion in this book. Well worth the money!

Rating:  Summary: From our cousins across the sea... Review: I didn't realize when I ordered it that this is from a British publisher, which means that the measurements and terms are a little different. For instance, the authors are wild about marzipan, and designate "plain chocolate" (instead of "unsweetened") for recipes. The cake recipes, too, are not what I think of as the basics (good ol' chocolate or buttermilk). I got some decorating ideas, but overall I don't recommend this for an American kitchen.

The cakes in Britain are so beautiful, elegant, and whimsical I adore them! The person who reviewed this book that thought there was too much sugar in the marzipan or royal icings should take a look at the fat content in the typical American buttercream frosting! Disgusting! This book is fabulous! Easy to follow for the person wanting to take the time to learn how to make a special cake for any occasion! I use it mostly for my kids birthday party cakes. They just love it.

Rating:  Summary: Not What I Expected Review: I was very disappointed with this book. The type of icing used was not as I expected. I expected a variety of decorations and icing types since the title refers to the book as the "bible" for cake decorating. Unfortunately, almost all of the cakes in the books catered to the thick sugarpaste or marzipan icing. It's a shame that I wasted my money. I have absolutely no use for this book.
Rating:  Summary: Bible? Hmm... Review: If this is the Cake Decorator's Bible, it must be the King James version. It definitely isn't the New American Standard! It is a very nice book for British-Style specialty cakes. Just looking at the step-by-step pictures of putting a thick coating of rolled-out marzipan over a round or square fruit cake, in preparation for covering the whole thing with rolled-out sugar paste, makes my teeth hurt. There are some nice decorating ideas in here that could be adapted to more typically American ways of decorating, but I'm sorry I spent my money to own this book.

Review: This is an invaluable books which provides information on necessary equipment, how-to decorate directions for royal and glace icing, marzipan, butter icing, chocolate, etc., and basic cake recipes. I have tried several of the cakes, and I was not dissapointed.
Rating:  Summary: Bible? Hmm... Review: Though not for the faint of heart, this book is full of ideas for every kind of cake, from the formal to the fanciful. Many involve several layers of frosting, but the finished product is very professional and explanations are clear enough to be followed by the amateur. The book includes basic cake and frosting recipes, techniques for decorating with piping, sugarpaste icing, marzipan, and chocolate, and a wide variety of model cakes to take ideas from. The wonderful layout with color photos on every page is what sold me on this book -- I even had it on my coffee table for a while! The variety of special occasion cakes, elegant dessert masterpieces, and charming children's cakes offers something for any baker's needs. If you don't mind putting a little extra time into your dessert, this book will give you all the tools you need to create professional-looking cakes in your own kitchen.
