Rating: Summary: Having a party ? Get this book! Review: I just had a party and already my guests are trying to find the book to purchase it. The blue cheese puffs and the venison / sausage meatballs were a huge hit! They also have full menu suggestions for any number of different party types. They are very accurate on the number to expect from a recipe also. Extremely well done! I've got a number of Junior League cookbooks, but this one is the best.
Rating: Summary: A gorgeous & well-written cookbook Review: I love this book, and am very impressed that it was put out by a "non-professional" publisher (the Houston Junior League). The recipes are easy to follow & clear, the graphics are crisp and fine, and the food that I have made from the book has been well-loved by the lucky eaters in my circle. I fancy myself a bit of a domestic goddess-- ask anyone who knows me if they would turn down a dinner invitation. I originally bought this book to give to a friend for a wedding gift, and eventually had to buy it for myself. I traded in a more "famous" trendy cookbook which was not well done for this one and have not looked back. It's both complex enough for experienced cooks and simple-to-follow enough for the beginner-- plus includes some "everyone ought to know this" tips and charts on things other than the nuts and bolts of recipes. Buy this book; you won't regret it, and you're supporting charity work, as well.
Rating: Summary: Highly Recommend Review: I LOVE this book. Whenever I give a dinner party, formal or casual, this is the first cookbook I reach for. The recipes are unique and imaginative, and not what you'd find in your typical cookbook. The book is well written with simple and precise recipes. My guests rave over the dishes and always ask for the recipes. This book was a gift in more ways than one.
Rating: Summary: Perfection! Review: I think I'm going to buy a 2nd copy of this cookbook, because I've already worn out the first! I love to cook different and exciting things, but Martha Stewart I am not. These are elegant recipes that don't require you to be Julia Child in order to prepare them. I love the front section of the cookbook which offers tabletop suggestions and menu ideas. Worth every penny!
Rating: Summary: Five National Awards for Stop and Smell the Rosemary! Review: Stop and Smell the Rosemary has won a total of five national awards for Best Cookbook and Best Book Design including Benjamin Franklin, Small Press, and, most recently, Writer's Digest Awards. Additionally, two recipes from the book were recently selected to appear in the 1998 edition of America's Best Recipes. To date, an amazing 82,000 copies of this fabulous cookbook have been sold.
Rating: Summary: An absolute must have cookbook! Review: Stop and Smell the Rosemary is beautifully written and also makes a wonderful coffee table book. The recipes are easy to follow and the tips listed in the margins are great. This has been a favorite of mine to give as gifts, and has been very well received. You must try the Mango Margaritas, they are festive and great for a change from the standard lime. The Tortilla Soup is the best I've ever had! There are far too many great dishes to name them, and my dinner guests have never been disappointed!
Rating: Summary: A beautiful and fabulous feast for the eyes and mouth. Review: Stop and Smell the Rosemary is one of the most beautiful cookbooks in my collection of over 200. The recipes are wonderful (Field Greens, Crumbled Blue Cheese and Spicy Pecans is among my very favorites). I highly recommend this cookbook to anyone looking to start a collection or to add to one.
Rating: Summary: Elegant, engrossing and exceptional Review: Stop and Smell the Rosemary is sophisticated, savvy and yet simple; every recipe is eloquent but nothing is overly complicated. If you are burnt out on California cuisine this is a refreshing change--one of the best cookbooks I've seen in years.
Rating: Summary: Houston Junior League does it again! Review: The Junior League of Houston combines fabulous recipes with useful
cooking techniques and extraordinary pictures in their new cookbook.
This southern bouquet of recipes is the best around!
Rating: Summary: Elegant, Foolproof Recipes Review: The test of a good recipe book is whether the recipes actually work -- and these do. The authors obviously tested and retested the recipes. Great variety of recipes, none of which are particularly difficult -- just innovative. Other cookbooks along the same lines are Heart and Soul (Memphis Junior League), and Come on In (Jackson, MS Junior League).
