Rating: Summary: I Love This Book ! Review: I first heard about the book from a friend who managed to maintain her slim figure for years. She told me the secret lies in following a certain method; the Montignac Method. The book offers a life style that suggests forgetting about counting calories and concentrating on understanding the functions of your body. Of course, there are certain rules and some foods to avoid, but the permitted foods allow you to enjoy your meals. Is it enough to know that you can have spaghetti for dinner followed by some chocolate? I enjoyed reading the book, and when I tried the method, it worked. I have lost so much weight and have become in a perfect shape. To be honest, I sometimes cheat, but my weight keeps going down. I recommend EAT YOURSELF SLIM to any one who wants to lose weight the healthy way.
Rating: Summary: Interesting ... Review: I found this book to be very interesting and thought provoking, however, I found his diet plan to be something very difficult to implement in the United States. We are a society which relies on foods which can be prepared quickly etc... and this diet is not for folks who find themselves in this position. Sure, he recommends fresh fruits, vegetables, etc... according to their glycemic index ... but in terms of entrees etc... I think it would be very difficult to maintain in an American Culture // Society.
Rating: Summary: contradictory Review: He tells you to say under 50 GI to lose weight per meal yet when you add up the GI's on the phase 1 diet, it totals more than the 50 GI's and then tells you you can eat as much as you want? This book is hard to follow and even though it has some interesting information about food, I put little credibility to it due to the poorly formatted information.
Rating: Summary: Eat Yourself Slim : great results and so easy! Review: I encourage everyone tired of the fat-free freak, calories counting, food weighting, 'unit' counting non-sense diets that are so common in the US, to follow Michel Montignac's method.
Eat Yourself Slim is an simple method to lose weight while eating plenty and healthy. I was heavily overweight and easily lost 97 pounds in less than a year by following Michel Montignac's method and exercising regularly. My energy level is at an all-time high and I feel great and beautiful!!
The great thing about Michel Montignac's method is that I do not feel like I am dieting!! Very few foods are forbidden, I can eat pretty much what I want, as much as I want!! Of course, you have to be willing to give up junk food, and have a minimum of motivation. But as soon as you see the amazing results even after the first week, you won't want to go back to your old eating habits!
All US Diet Gurus are now copying Michel Montignac's 16 year-old method, and some of them even admit it! This is a great method, just go with the original!!
Rating: Summary: IT WORKS ! Review: In 1986, Frenchman, Michel Montignac, wrote his first book, How to Lose Weight While Enjoying Business Lunches. In 1987 he followed with a new publication for the general public entitled Eat Yourself Slim (Je mange donc je maigris). Since then, this book has gone on to be a best-seller in twenty-five countries. If it didn't work, it would probably never have even been translated from its original French version. Montignac expounds the virtues of never mixing carbohydrates and lipids in the same meal. His method means that you never have to calorie-count and you never have to go hungry. Hence, it is long-term sustainable because it is fundamentally healthy and leaves you satisfied after every meal. For many years, critics, comprising for the most part traditional nutritionists, tried to undermine Montignac's credibility by claiming that his nutritional practices, though "possibly effective in producing weight loss", were not scientifically proven and perhaps even dangerous. However, numerous scientific studies have now demonstrated not only that the Montignac Method works (producing long-lasting results), but is also an important factor in reducing the risks of cardiovascular disease. In 1999, Professor W. Willett of Harvard University released the results of a 12 year scientific study, which confirmed the absolute validity of Montignac's methods. My wife is a doctor who not only specializes in heart diseases, but has also practiced as an allergist, and is qualified in many other aspects of medicine, including alternative medicines and acupuncture (in other words, her experience is broad and she keeps an open mind). I ran the Montignac method past her, for her opinion, and she wholeheartedly supports his theories. Not only are they logical, I can vouch that they work. Though Michel Montignac first wrote with examples of foods that are commonplace in France, his book has been revised and adapted to include more traditional North American fare. The only small 'negative' to the Montignac method is that you need to adjust to slightly non-traditional meals. In other words, some of the COMBINATIONS of foods that you may be used to seeing on your plate are not permitted. However, this is a VERY small price to pay for a diet method that not only works, but improves your general health and increases your vitality.
Rating: Summary: Finally eating is enjoyable! Review: Michel Montignac does a superb job of teaching the whys and hows of balancing a good meal. The sugar cravings, migraines, mood swings and insomnia I had while Somersizing are all gone. I'm eating less saturated fats and can enjoy a glass of wine with my meals occasionally. I'm not even snacking between meals. I'll check back and let you know how the weight loss is progressing.
Rating: Summary: The Best in it's Class-- DEFINATELY Review: I must agree with M Jayes. We have been using the method for over a year and a half. During that time, I've lost 30 lbs, and have been able to control my migrane attacks and gastritis. My husband lost 70 lbs. Our 3 kids make wiser food choices as a result. The best part is you don't have to follow it to the letter at first. As long as you make gradual changes, YOUR BODY WILL ASK YOU to eat healthier, so you are never a slave to the diet.
Rating: Summary: Cravings and ADD/ADHD Review: If I could give this book 100 stars I would. I've tried several low sugar and food combining diets, all knock offs of the Montignac Method and none of them come this close to making sense. I have absolutely no sugar cravings or mood swings and I'm not waking up at 3 or 4 in the morning feeling starved.Even though there really is no mention of a connection between diet and ADD/ADHD, I can tell you the change in eating habits has been like night and day for my daughter who was diagnosed with ADHD. As a parent who prefers not to medicate a child this has been a blessing in disguise. She is calmer and her concentration has improved. Before you try Somersizing, Sugar Busters or anything else do yourself a favor and use this method. It really works!
Rating: Summary: Feel better about yourself. Review: Amazing. I've lost 25 lbs since the end of January 2001 (it's now April 2001). The best part is that I've only done a bit of diet modification. The best part though is that I'm NEVER tired during the day. Most of the office here falls asleep by 3:00pm but I'm still plugging away. The book is written in a strange, translated French style, so it may be a hard to understand. I can also recommend the Sugar Busters series, which is basically this book but rewritten in a more familiar English style.
Rating: Summary: Will change your concept of dieting forever Review: I am a family practice physician who had trouble with my weight until I found out about this book. I was virtually a size 12 but since the two months that I have followed Mr. Montignac's book I have dropped nearly back to my normal size 8. All these years I have eaten the wrong foods and now I know how to eat correctly and I refer this book to my patients. Of course I have combined my new diet with moderate cardio and weight training. The good news is that with Mr. Montignac's diet I never have to be hungry. His book has been a miracle for me.
