Rating: Summary: Organized recipes of intoxicating drinks! Review: The book is so organized that you can find a drink and mix it even while intoxicated! :) The first chapter is short and sweet, it basically tells you what a well-stocked bar should look like, what it should have, etc... Then it get's to the drinks... in alphabetical order and categorized by its main ingredient the chapters are as follows... Bourbon drinks, Brandy drinks, Gin drinks, Rum, Scotch, Tequila, Vodka, and Whiksy drinks... the last chapters list Tropical drinks, apertifs, and cordials... but wait! There's more!!... It's got Wine drinks, beer and beer concoctions, hot drinks, party punches that really pack a punch! and of course... non-alchoholic drinks for us designated drivers! A great well-organized book! You'll definitely use it around the holidays (all of them!)... Highly recommended!

Rating: Summary: Don't bother Review: The only reason this book gets two stars from me is out of mercy. This is a horrible book that IS basically useless for the sole reason that the Index is sophomorically organized at best. The book is organized alphabetically by main alcoholic ingredient. This method is unwieldy for a professional bartender and only moderately acceptable for a novice home bar. The Index _sort of_ tries to offer an alternative by listing _some_ drinks by name. However, it also attempts to index by ingredient as well. This would be fine, except the job is incomplete. For example, if you look up a drink in the index by name, you may not always be able to find it also by main ingredient, and vice versa. I won't return or toss this book since I've already purchased it and it might be useful somehow, if only as a second-hand gift to a friend. I would HIGHLY recommend that if you are considering purchasing a bartender's guide with any eye towards being able to actually use it, to look at "The Bartender's Black Book: The Drink Recipe Collection for the 21st Century" by Stephen Kittredge Cunningham.
Rating: Summary: Beware of what's popular! Review: The only thing this bartender's guide has going for it is its hard, oversized cover. Otherwise its only conceivable use is to feed a waning fire. I have been a bartender for over seven years, and I have read a dozen or so reference books. The Bartenders Bible is my least favorite of all. Its organizational system is ponderous and ultimately useless to a bartender in a pinch. It is polluted with obscurely named concoctions that make an experienced bartender wonder if the editors didn't just make them up to fill space. On top of that it is sloppy. If anyone can tell the difference between the "cosmos" pg96 and a daiquiri pg97, be my guest. I don't know what Mr. Regan was thinking with this book? I have also read his "New Classic Cocktails" and found it to be a much better read. Whatever the cause, beware of this book. Just because it called a "Bible" doesn't mean it's a Good Book.
Rating: Summary: The Bartender's Bible: 1001 Mixed Drinks Review: This book is extremely helpful and straight forward. I would recommend it to anyone!
Rating: Summary: Good book, but not the latest drinks included. Review: THIS BOOK IS GREAT FOR THE BEGINNER...NOT FOR THE SEMI PROFESSIONAL BARTENDER, OR PROFESSIONAL, NOR FOR THE EXPERIENCED HOME BARTENDER. MOST BOOKS HAVE MORE DRINKS TO OFFER, WITH BOOKS LIKE THE BARTENDERS BLACK BOOK WHICH IS MORE USER FRIENDLY AND HAS MORE THAN TWICE AS MANY RECIPES I WOULD RATHER SPEND THE DIFFERENCE.
Rating: Summary: What, no Hurricane? Review: This is a dandy book, great mainly for its advice on setting up your home bar. It's got all the real classics -- the Gibson, the Manhattan, the Negroni, the Gimlet, the Sazerac... but most of its trendy modern mixed drinks are clearly English (the names are often the give-away). An interesting picture of what they're drinking in England, but I was surprised at what I /didn't/ find (the above-mentioned Hurricane, for example).
Rating: Summary: Great collection of bar drinks Review: We have enjoyed this little book to the point the pages are wearing. It is a handy collection of drink recipes & tips like what items you should have in your home bar, origins of types of alcohol & other interesting information. It is the only bar book we have and we have used it frequently to try new things & to prepare drinks for visitors. Every recipe we have tried has been great!
It is a great deal for the price & so far the only bar book we need for our small home bar.
