Summary: Good information, but can't live her lifestyle!
Review: I read the book cover to cover in one night, including the recipes. It is well written and easy to find specific information when you need to review. I especially like the one page handy reference guide in the back.

The diet works for me (at least right now) and I lost 4 lbs in the first 3 days. It's a good thing that summer is coming with fresh veggies! I reeeeeaaallllly miss those Sonic Cherry Limeades, though. It's a small price to pay to finally be a "normal" size. I have more energy, no digestive distress, and am more alert than I've been in a long time. Even if I don't lose another pound, the other benefits are worth the effort to eat this way.

The recipes are probably wonderful; I'll never know about most of them. The ingredients may be available in LA, but not in LA (Lower Alabama). It would be nice to have recipes with more accessible ingredients. People in rural areas (which accounts for most of the US) don't have access to the more exotic fruits, vegetables, and spices that she uses [let's don't even talk about the mushrooms!]

I enjoyed the book, except that it underscored over and over the differences between the "haves" and "have nots". We don't go jetting off to France, or have a beach house anywhere. We also do not have a housekeeper to allow us to live this lifestyle. Too bad.

The food combining information seems to work. Food combining has been around for almost a century, but no one really paid much attention. Maybe it just took someone with Suzanne's visibility to make it acceptable.

Summary: It Works!
Review: This is so easy and gives *fast* results. I thought my jeans felt looser after 2 days on the eating plan. I dug out my tape measure fully expecting to be disappointed - no so! I had lost a combined total of 5(!) inches in 2 days! (Chest, waist, hips, thighs). I never feel hungry or deprived and am full of energy.

Summary: Continue to "shrink" even when weight is stabilized
Review: I have always been a size 10, okay...sometimes a 12, but when I began eating this way, even with my weight stabilized, I shrank to a size 6. It takes very little effort to stay this size. I'm on Level II and I can afford several imbalances a week and stay between 120 and 125.

My sister is the biggest success story. She has lost 50 lbs so far and is still losing. She told me that the rate of her weight loss had started slowing down and we couldn't figure out why. She called me yesterday to say she'd lost 3 lbs in 2 days. I asked her what she'd done differently and she said "I stopped cheating so much".

My dad has also lost 25 lbs.

This book has a bigger selection of delicious recipes as did her original Eat Great Lose Weight. They are good and easy to prepare. I appreciated Suzanne going into more detail as to the medical evidence on why this works. Both my husband's and my bloodwork has normalized. My poor husband is really deprived. Yesterday at the lake barbeque, I had to feed him a beet/cucumber/goat cheese salad with cilantro dressing, roasted hotdogs, marinated vegetable salad, crudity with sour cream dip and an Almond Chocolate Torte with Haagen Daas Coffee ice cream for dessert.............and he still lost 2 lbs. Such a pity!!!!

Digestive problems are not even an issue. We will eat this way forever.

Summary: Lots of great recipes, lose weight, no hunger
Review: Suzanne's book is a a great find for those of us who like to cook and eat. It is easy to stick to moderate portions and the food is incredible. As for the naysayers, I say just try it. Our bodies are designed for fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Food processing, additives, preservatives, and sugar are the roots to many of the health crises in this country, and the most recent research is proving this to be true. Suzanne advocates eating healthy foods in their purest forms, with enough lean protein to sustain active adults. I lost four pounds th first week, eating plenty of salads with real olive oil dressings. I do not get hungry and feel energized eating wonderful, natural foods. As an active mother with three children six and under, I find the program very easy to follow and I'm even living without caffeine!

Summary: Freedom to enjoy excellent food
Review: First off I have to say that it's people like Dave Dickerson that make this world difficult for overweight humans.

I have incredible willpower and can diet with the best of them. The problem is that all the conventional wisdom is WRONG! Carb loading only keeps a person fat. Four years ago I went on a high-carb/low-fat/low-protein diet. I struggled to lose weight even though I exercised like a dog (more than 3 hours a day). So that blows the "get off your fat butt" theory all to hell.

Now I'm having great success with Somersizing. By changing the ratio of protein/fat/and carbs, the weight is falling off. (I'm not sure if I'm losing any lean muscle mass, but I doubt it.)

With a little moderation (don't overdo the bad fats-the diet isn't a license to eat a pound of bacon for breakfast), this diet is great. I've completely lost my sweet tooth, my energy has skyrocketed and best of all, I need less sleep. I think it's because I used to be in a perpetual sugar coma. All of the "good" food that I was eating was being converted to sugar. Eek. And the hidden sugar in packaged food is really frightening.

I really think that there is a similarity between this program and _The Zone_. I feel best when I have protein/fat AND vegetables. Suzanne says these don't "count" as carbohydrates but most all of her meals contain them. If you factor in your vegie carbohydrates it really puts the ratio at Dr. Sears' recommended 40/30/30. Interesting.

Summary: My French husband loves it!!!
Review: The recipes are excellent and very reminiscent of my years living in France. My husband loves the rich sauces, and I love trying new vegetables like parsnips and fennel. I am glad, however, that I bought this book before her "Eat Great, Loose Weight" book. The recipes are much better! Take my advise- if you don't know which one of the two to get..... "Get Skinny on Fabulous Food" is the best choice.

Summary: Great Recipes - Arrogant Author
Review: The recipes are great. However, Somers really needs to let go of her self-congratulatory attitude (I really don't care that her children are all "such good friends") as well as her assertions that she knows best for everybody, all of which are highly irritating. (For example, she makes statements that begin with the words "I'll permit..." or "I'll allow...") And while the information in the first half of the book is useful, much of it is word for word from Eat Great Lose Weight (Somers' first book on this subject). Additionally, much of the information is written in a more compelling and thorough way elsewhere. Specifically, the M.D. who wrote the forward to Somers' book, Diana Schwarzbein, also has a book available called the Schwarzbein Principle. I've almost finished reading Dr. Schwarzbein's book and feel as though I've found a gold-mine of useful health information that has its basis in science, not wishful thinking. Next time, Suzanne, just stick to recipes and leave the science to trained scientists.
