Summary: Recipes from Home
Review: My wife and I both enjoy cooking a lot and we use a wide range of recipe sources, including cook books. The reason we so enjoyed this one is that it is more than a cook book, it's a good read too. Apart from the fact that the recipes do work - we've tried many of them and they're delicious. On a minor scale, Jane particularly likes it because it's a perfect size for our perspex cook book holder, unlike many others which are too big and make it difficult to read the recipes.

Summary: Feeling at Home
Review: This book is a great compilation of recipes, pictures, and many many memories. Not only did this couple bring together both of their families, but they bring the readers into their family as well. This cookbook is not a traditional cookbook, this book is filled with recipes that have been in the family and recipes made up by the couple. In addition, their own family photos serve as enterainment. This book is great. There is nothing like good ol' home cookin'. It makes me feel right at home!

Summary: Finally! A REAL American Cookbook!
Review: This is quite possibly the best cookbook I have ever used. While cooking some of the recipes I felt like I was alongside the authors in my own kitchen. The humble simplicity of the recipes has made for hours of enjoyment in both reading the text and trying the recipes. I won't be eating out for a while!!

Summary: Nearly Impossible to Read and Use
Review: While the text of this book and the pictures are somewhat interesting, especially if you are into stories about people's lives as they grew up, this book is definitely not designed to be used as a practical cookbook. It's size and shape are much better suited to a storybook for casual reading, not a cookbook for working in the kitchen.

The format and design of this book make it impratical to read the recipes and virtually impossible to use in the kitchen. Whoever designed the size of this book did not take the reader into mind and definitely did not make it user-friendly for cooks. The book is so thick that you have to exert a bit of force to get to the text and ingredient lists in the inner part of the pages. And it definitely will not stay open on the kitchen counter.

If you are buying the book for the story of the authors, you will probably enjoy it. If you buying it as a recipe book, be forewarned that it is a bear to use and not worth the trouble.

On the topic of home canning: The recipes in this book are very limited and seem to be almost an afterthought. If you are interested in home canning, look for a better cookbook on the subject.
