Rating: Summary: Luscious Lemon Desserts Review: As an amateur I cook mainly for myself and personal friends. In looking through cookbooks I look for recipes which produce subtle tastes and recipes that are clear and simple. Regarding her "lemon-black pepper cornmmeal cookies" I"ve never tasted better. This book is thoughtfully written, each word carefully weighed and each recipe carefully tested.
Rating: Summary: Irresistible Review: Between the terrific recipes, gorgeous photos, and very entertaining prose, this is one of those cookbooks that you read from cover to cover. And then, you run out to buy lemons. I've made the Perfect Lemon Tart, the Old-Fashioned Lemon Sugar Cookies, and the Lemon and Anise Biscotti and they were all perfect. It's a great dessert book to cook from (very clear instructions) and would make a wonderful gift as well.
Rating: Summary: Great book! Review: Have already tried several of the recipes and I must say they are top notch. I too am a "lemon-aholic" and am thoroughly enjoying this book. Well written, easy to follow and full of great ideas. A welcome addition to my cookbook library.
Rating: Summary: Best Lemon Shortbread ever Review: I am a professional pastry chef and I love this book. I actually use the lemon shortbread for one of my desserts as well as the madeleine recipe. This is a great book for any bakers library.
Rating: Summary: Remarkable Dessert Cookbook Review: I enjoy cooking for friends and relatives who come to our house for a good meal. Eating together has become a greater satisfaction over the years. I like to prepare flavorful food in straightforward ways, perhaps this is why I have always found desserts challenging. Ordinarily, I would settle for ice cream and home-made berry syrup. However, ice cream seemed inappropriate sometimes after grilled freshly caught white King salmon or chicken breasts with thyme and balsamic vinegar.I recently got a copy of Lori Longbotham's Luscious Lemon Desserts. I think this is a remarkable dessert cookbook. Ms. Longbotham includes a glossary of terms "Lemon Aid", in advance of the recipes. Here she explains the terms, techniques and tools that are less familiar to us red meat afficionados. The recipes themselves are fool proof and well tested. They are written in straight forward unambiguous style with clarity and explanation the watchwords. The prose is simple and utilitarian, but graceful like Shaker furniture. Ms. Longbotham includes personal touches with some of the recipes, for example informing us of the fondness Proust had for Madeleines. Aside from providing an outlet for her obvious zeal for lemons, Ms. Longbotham's new cookbook has also quelled some of my anxiety over making first-class desserts for our guests. A great part of this is due to her careful explanation of potential problems. In the recipe for the Perfect Lemon Tart comes the caution..."If there are even hairline cracks in the crust, seal them before adding the filling." This is nice to know in advance and it helped. There are about 15 customer reviews of this book and each has unique favorite recipes. However the Perfect Lemon Tart is high on many lists, as is my personal other favorite, Lemon Mousse. I doubled the recipe and made the mousse for ten recently and it was unbelievably good. My advice is to buy the book and begin your own facination with lemon desserts, believe me you will be pleased. I hope Ms. Longbotham will treat us to a non-dessert cookbook filled with lemons soon.
Rating: Summary: Well Done! Review: I have a love for the flavor of lemon that was recognized early in childhood. The recipes in this book for "Ultimate Lemon Pound Cake" and "The Perfect Lemon Tart" produced desserts that overwhelmed me. Because I am watching what I eat, I focus on small amounts of highly flavorful foods. Thanks to these recipes, I think I have two new favorite desserts.
Rating: Summary: I love lemon! Review: I love lemon desserts! As much as I love chocolate, I will usually choose a lemon dessert over a chocolate one. (They are often a better way to end a meal, especially a rich one) That is why I was so excited about this book. Lemon, as a dessert ingredient, seems to be a bit neglected ... but not anymore! I am working my way through the recipes in this book and my friends love me for it. The Lemon Pudding Cake is wonderful. The author gives wonderfully detailed instructions. She even reminds you at the beginning of the recipe to put the kettle on for the water bath. The Chocolate Ganache Tart with Lots of Lemon is to die for - my two favourite flavours. The Perfect Lemon Tart is. The only semi-flop I had was the Ultimate Lemon Pound Cake, but I will try it again. I think I may have messed up on the oven temperature or the cooking time.
Rating: Summary: my favorite dessert book Review: I love this book and not simply because lemon desserts are heaven to me. The recipes in this book seem to me to have been worked until perfection was achieved. The balance of flavors and textures is superb, and the recipe writing is clear and precise. I love the look of the book too--like lemons, bright and fresh. I have only tried 3 recipes so far (the lemon meringue pie is the best I have ever tasted), but have ordered lemon oil and plan to exhaust this book until I can bake no more.
Rating: Summary: The title of the books says it all! Review: I love this book! As the title of my review would suggest, this book is indeed packed with truly "Luscious" lemon desserts! I sell cookbooks as my occupation (at "The Cook's Library" in Los Angeles), and I just wanted to tell everyone how much I enjoyed this book. It's a must have for both Lemon and Dessert fans alike! Just in time for summer:)
Rating: Summary: The best!! Review: I love this book! It is beautifully photographed and the receipes are easy to follow and fun to make. It's about time that someone did a book on lemon desserts and did it so well!
