Rating: Summary: Fabulous! Review: I received this book as a Christmas gift and have already used it several times. It's becoming a staple in my household, and the recipes are wonderful! Very well-organized by category and easy to follow. Love it!
Rating: Summary: 100% success rate for soups Review: I typically buy cookbooks, read through them, and flag 15% of the recipes for experimentation. Less than 5% of those succeed and are cooked again. This book has started a Sunday Soup ritual in my house, and out of the many soups I've tried so far, *every* single one has been a huge success with family and friends. If you are new to soups and don't own a cookbook for them yet, buy this one. Right now. Go on, you know you want to. I promise you will love it.

Rating: Summary: Great Review: I went to Daily Soup at Union Square in NY at least 2 or 3 times a week from when they opened until they closed. Terrible loss but when I came upon this book at a bookstore right near where the store used to be and flipped through it, I couldn't believe it -- sort of like that Seinfeld when the Soup Nazi's recipes are found stashed in the dresser (wish THIS were true -- his soups are amazing, too). Anyway, bought it, made the Poblano Corn Chowder, and it worked. Truly one of the best soups I've ever had and a dead ringer for the one I used to get all the time from their store. The other recipes are pretty great, too. Lots of the standards but plenty of imaginative ones, as well. Only wish I had their recipe for salmon with dill!. This is the best soup cookbook I've got with a wide range of recipes for whatever mood you're in. Gotta buy it.
Rating: Summary: So easy & simple Review: If only life would be like this. Every recipe here is simplified down to its' barest essentials. & I really like the stock recipes that are such an unexplored territory in cooking nowdays. Back in grandma's day, soup just wasn't soup w/out the stock. But to have a choice in stock making. Worth it's weight in latium. The info contained therein replaces several of my cookbooks. But the best is the list of recommendations. I.e which soups go w/what. Like watching the Godfather.
Rating: Summary: Wow.... Do I like this book! Review: If you like soup -- and I know that you do -- this book is for you. The recipes are magnifique, the writing is cogent, humorous and relevant. Two spoons up!
Rating: Summary: Excellent instructions for extraordinary soups Review: Last night I cooked the "Cream of Lentil" soup. Although initially afraid that this wouldn't be the meal that some of the other soups are (e.g., Senegalese Peanut), I was pleasantly surprised at how good this dish also turned out to be. I rated this cookbook "5 stars" due to the following: 1. excellent recipes for tremendous meals; 2. easy-to-follow instructions (a must for "cooks" like me); 3. just enough background on the dish "genre" (e.g., vegetarian, cheese, etc.) to make you comfortable to prepare a soup you've never made before; 4. hints/suggestions about storage of basic stocks; 5. easy-to-read format (i.e., layout of book is clear and uncluttered).

Rating: Summary: Great for vegetarians Review: Many recipes call for vegetable stock which I haven't seen much in cookbooks other than those for vegetarians. Favorites include Mulligatawny, Corn, Red Pepper and Zucchini Chowder and Tomato Fennel.
Rating: Summary: Mediocre at Best Review: So far I have only tried two recipes, but have been completely unimpressed. The two soups were very expensive to make, time consuming, and just not very good. The book claims that all the soups are full meals but this is far from true. I don't think the recipes are very creative. Bland soup occurs from the always similar onion, celery, stock base. Though the book's layout is good, it is overpriced and it's more worth your time going to the store to buy a gourmet soup.
